Something fishy is going on here. That exact same car is currently FOR SALE at European Collectibles in Southern California for $52k+!
www.europeancollectibles.com/ec_reborn/inventory_detail.aspx?@page_inv_id=Po1234
How it can also be on Ebay with a buy-it-now price of $9000 is impossible. A Convertible D even in lousy condition is worth over $40k.

So should I be buying this one? Anyone in Omaha to go look?
Hello??? Mike????
The car's NOT IN Omaha! It's on the lot at European Collectibles in Costa Mesa, CA with a sticker price of $52k+.
The guy offering it for auction/sale on Ebay is a fraud. The $9000 price should have been your first clue. Even the pictures he posted are identical to those posted on the European Collectibles website. He should be busted.

As of 6:00pm today it is no longer in the ebay data base.
This is similar to a speedster ebay auction I listed this Summer
A week after I sold a silver speedster to a NJ buyer, my identical ebay ad text and photos were listed with a S.Carolina sellers user name. The "auction" was pulled a day later , I Guess this is just another of the latest in scams.

This guy also pulled the Ebay listing for a CMC Speedster Replica he had at a buy-it-now price of $9000. I don't get this "scam." Is he just fishing for non-refundable "down payments?" He obviously never had the white Convertible D - probably didn't have the CMC, either.
We need JIM WARD, EBAY AUCTION CRIME SQUAD to get on the case.

The link is bad, but $9000 huh? Very odd... because for about 30 minutes this afternoon, there was a 58 cab listed on ebay, silver with a red interior... for $9000. I didn't bookmark it, but I did shoot an email to the seller, located in KY or TN, asking a few questions to flush him out. It was item # 2496518630, listed by "Rual Brogan".
The ad was pulled within an hour, and I received a reply to the question this evening. As follows:
"Hello and thank you for contacting me
I will tell you a few words about the car..
First of all the car is fully restored and looks just like in the
pictures. It is in imaculate condition and has no schrach on and hasn't been involved in any accident.
The motor runs very well. This is a clasic car that has a lot of the
original parts and thr tires are almost new.
The title is clear ,it is not a salvage one and can be registred in
your name anytime.
The car belongs to my brother. He died two weeks ago in a bike
accident. The car is now in Lisbon, Portugal as my brother lived there. I am now here as i took care of the funerals.
Because i can't carry all his things back home i am selling them.
I am willing to sell it and shipp it to any of the UE countries or to
US and Canada.I will not ship to any African,Asian or Eastern European countries.
I know that the price is low but i have no use for the car and I want
to get back home as soon as i sell it. I want to sell the car asap so I am willing to pay the shipping fees nomatter of the location.
I require a deposit of 3,000 USD (3,950 CAD), with the balance when the car arrive at your shipping door. The total price i hope to sell this car is 9,000 USD (11,800 CAD)I will shipp using KLM 3-5 days, by plane to the nearest airport. From there a truck will bring the car at your door. The money is a reservation for the car. First one who makes the deposit will be the buyer. I need the deposit to
be sure that you want the car and in order to proceed with shipping and all the aditional export taxes. I wait your further questions and i will provide any infos you need.
Thank you
Regards"
This is almost a parody of every scam I've ever seen. "My poor dead brother... Just a deposit... I just want to go home... $9000 talkes you all the way"
If something looks too good to be true (especially on ebay)- it is.

Ok guys I'm busted. I've been running this scam via an offshore company called "Jim Bob's Mighty Fine Rides". One more sale and I'll have that new IM paid for!
My last car for sale is a Speedster with a "history". It is in strong mechanical shape but is not asthetically ready for shows. A correct and rare 57 Speedster. You may have heard that the Carrera line split with the GS and GT models during this period? Well, it is a little known fact that Porsche also put out a third Carrera model... called the VS. I have one for sale through our Maud, Oklahoma dealer, Jimmy J. B. Smoot, PO Box 356, Maud, OK. Please send the required 40% down with your winning bid. J Smoot will get the car to you, no really.
Look for our ad on e-bay.
Jim, as in Bob.
