"Running backwards"
This is difficult for me to visualize.
Do you mean the crank is actually rotating backwards?...resulting in multiple reverse gearings but only one forward gear?
(I can hear you guys snickering)

That would be it, Carl. When Corvair transplants into VW's were popular there was a reverse rotation camshaft available, as the engine normally runs counterclockwise. The alternative was to flip the ring gear in the transaxle.
Or.....you could just turn the engine upside down.......right?
Yes, the firing order problem is solved, but the fuel injection ECU still needs some fine tuning. CB emailed a custom tune, but as we know each engine is slightly different, so adjustments will have to be made for optimum drive-ability.
I hope this 901 5 speed is worth all the hassle.
Still working on getting rid of the big bump in the tunnel so the 901 shifter shaft doesn't rub.
Besides grinding down the bump my mechanic is also fabricating something to move the shifter shaft up slightly.
Great news Ron! That means I may get a chance to see that car on the road!
How old are you now, Danny?
Funny Bob! 51. I've got plenty of time, but does Ron?

Don't think that hasn't crossed my mind. I think my mechanic hopes that if he puts off getting my car back on the road long enough I'll eventually get Alzheimers and forget I own the car.
WHAT!?!?!?!!
You own a Speedster?
WHAT!?!?!?!!
You own a Speedster?
I'm....not.....sure......anymore.
New mount for the shifter cable is in and everything seems to fit and line up properly.
Did I say everything.....almost.
With the 901 gearbox the clutch cable doesn't line up anymore, so that's next.
Getting a 901 5sp to fit and work properly is not an easy task.
Keep at it, you're almost there!

Please 'visually document' the detailed installation of your 901
I've got a 901 and an entire IRS with torsion bar brackets awaiting such confidence pumping blueprints!
Carl.
My now sold Speedster has a 901 five speed, but I can't help with any drawings.
Henry did all the work on that car.
Bob, good to hear you sold your speedster. Ray
Carl, with install is not an easy one. My mechanic, who has many years experience working on Porsches and was at one time a service manager at a VW dealership, is surprised at the number of little problems that have cropped up.
One of the biggest obstacles was finding a way to lockout reverse gear on the 4 speed shifter, without having to rip out all the carpeting to modify the tunnel to fit a Porsche 5 speed shifter.
He ended up going with a solenoid on the tranny that pulls the reverse lockout when the button on this shifter shaft is pressed. Cool idea, but we don't know how well it will work.
