Does anyone have a jack outlet/socket on their car that will allow you to use an OEM type jack? I'm thinking of installing them on my pan to allow me to carry a VW jack for emergencies. It would be more for nostalgia than function.

Jim, that's one of my pet peeves. The original VW pan had jack sockets which we all strip off to get a better "look".
I use a jack from a 1990's Ford Windstar mini-van, because it comes with a 19mm lug wrench/handle/crank which fits my wheels and it is a scissors jack so I can position it under the shock mount for one wheel or under the pan jack points for other stuff.
I see no reason, however, that you couldn't install some jack sockets to fit your VW jack.
Gordon,
I was just going post, asking about jack points. The drawing in the knowledge base, isn't enuff detail for my feeble mind. BUT using a scissors jack under the shock absorber mount is clear for me. Can you tell me what you mean by "under the pan jack points" means. Again the drawing leaves me puzzled. Thanks, Art
They come tack welded on replacement pan halfs but are pretty flimsy. I see crushed fiberglass if they aren't modified and reinforced. I sure wound't try to get under a car using them.
I would never consider getting under a car with just a jack, especially a VW/Porsche type jack! But, it would be handy for changing a flat tire if the need arises.
There is a speedster for sale on Samba, amongst the photos, a pic shows a jack stand holding the car up, utilizing the torsion bar. Is this acceptable practice?
Imho, a jack stand under the torsion housing, front or rear, is a very reliable way to support a VW pan/body. Especially if doing any serious work under or around the car.
My interest in the jack sockets and OEM jack is only for the rare need to change a flat and nostalgia of using the original method.
If it's under the front beam then that's not unusual. As for the rear torsion tubes, the place I've seen recommended is under the torsion bar to spring plate bushing/torsion bar covers. However, the cars are light enough that I doubt anything bad would happen from putting a jackstand under the torsion tubes - particularly if the stand is on the tube but right next to the bushing/torsion bar cover. That's where I put mine.
Search "jacking points" on this site. Plenty of info, pics and suggestions.
