Worked 18 years at an oil refinery and now I am officed based. I picked up alot sweet techniques from the senior welders and machinists while at the refinery. Raced hydroplanes and stock cars for 14 + years. Learned a lot about fiberglass composites. At a younger age was into shaping and glassing surfboards and windsurfers. Got the name Jogyver from my buddie's who say I can build anything out of junk.
For a lot of us, at least 50% of the satisfaction of owning a speedster, or any unusual car, is making your own "stuff". I ain't a welder and do not even have many machine tools, but the challenge is in the design vision. I've done engine tin three times, modified my air cleaners to accomodate velocity stacks, added a complete front air dam, revised the trunk and deck lid latches, fabricated type 4 engine mounts, and on and on. When recovering from a mild stroke last year, fabrication was my only form of physical therapy, cause I couldn't drive a clutch for several months. I never lost enthusiasm or interest, and I can clutch just fine today. Do it yourself, do whatever degree you can.
