Okay, I am not very computer literate.

What type of file do you have to save the .ico file "as" to open it? Is there a specific program that works with that type of file?

I was going to save it to my desktop, but my Dell computer was asking for what program or application to apply to it to open it?
In MS Outlook...

File -> Save Attachment -> (Save in My Documents) -> Exit

In MS Explorer...

Goto SOC -> Click and drag the little "e" icon next to the Address onto the desktop -> Exit

On the desktop...

Right click on the SOC link you just made on the desktop -> Properties -> Change Icon -> Browse -> Click on the speedster.ico icon file in My Documents -> Ok -> Ok

Bingo!
Well, it took a couple of false starts, but I got it, differently from what Jerome said, but what the hey, I got a neat icon on my desk top. Being a main frame guy, I am still a bit in the dark about the "little computers" but maybe it will help keep me sharper playing with these little guys. Anything to keep me out of the old Speedsterowners home.

Jerome, sorry I wasn't even thinking about the negative impact of doing this post. I just thought if you "splained it" here it would save you from individual questions...so sorry :(

No I'm going to have to try it again, as my computer has associated it with a different sort of file (thats because I kept trying different applications, finally giving up on it).

I will give a go again...hey you don't have one in black or slate grey do ya, huh, huh...just kidding...you could be the Mike C of Icons.
I thought that was for the donut and that's why there is a hole in the middle. I keep my coffee cup between my legs...it's an old speedster driving habit.

And all you wize guyz, no comments about switching them and putting the coffee on the pop-out cumputer holder and the donut between your legs, what with the hole in the donut and all that.
