In March I purchased a 2005 JPS speedster from a guy in Grass Valley. Two weeks ago I was in Los Angeles on business.I stopped by JPS to visit with John and Craig. I had some questions about construction around the pan. Without hesitation they identified the point in question. They proceeded to spend four (4) hours in shop time to make it right. Upon completion I tried to pay for their time. Eventhough I had not purchased the car from them, John insisted that the work fell under warranty and that there was no charge. This is five (5) years after the car left his shop. Hmm. Small businesses know better than any that time is money. I have read, going back a bit, about what a bad guy John was He certainly has the capacity to be, to say the least, cantankerous. We've had a couple meeting of the minds. In the end, if there is any additional speedster business surrounding my JPS, I'll go to John and Craig. Seem damn straight to me. I like to be positive when it's warranted.

Damned Vince---if you have some pull get me some of that sainthood too---can't hurt in the long term-----and I mean l-o-n-g.

Seriously, we are blessed (intentional pun) by the high quality of builders we have within our ranks.

Without John Steele I would still be bailing water out of my car. He told me the fix for water in the floor and it worked 100%. There are still folks asking how to watewrproof their cars---some even sport bathtub stoppers hanging from their rear view mirrors. Not ne--thanks to John. I visit with him every year at Carlisle and learn something new and valuable. My grade? 100% Thank you John.

Kirk and Mary have supplied me with parts, advice and sympathy ad I bought ny VS from the original owner--not from Vintage. They don't play favorites (right, Mary?) and they go the extra mile with support. Kirks best advice to me was "why don;t you quit fooling with it and just drive it??" (But I went ahead and re-powered with a Raby Type IV.) My grade? 100%+ Thanks, Kirk & Mary

Carey Hines--so helpful to the members of this site that he was awarded a plaque as a top supplier and all round helpful guy. He gave me super advice om fog light installation and totally gratis. My grade? 100%+ Thanks, Carey

Henry Reisner--sent me the rubber that is used for the IM roll up windows that I will use this winter for plexi windows for a perfect seal. Hell yes, I'd drive an IM if I weren't already pretty set up.
My grade? 100%+ Thanks, Henry

So I don't know about sainthood for anyone but I do know how highly I regard these fine builders and contributors to out hobby. Without them I would have sold my Speedster long ago but they helped me
without asking anything in return.

Teary yet, Vince?

It's all good, thanks to these fine folks and Mr. Beehive too!
I'll toss in my .02 here too.

JPS: Has the rear pan water problem fix and it works ~

Vintage Speedsters: Kirk, Mary and the lovely Miss Kathy have been supplying me with parts for my builds and restos for over eleven years, they DO go the extra mile with support and good communications........ 110%+

Special Edition: Carey & Kevin Hines--Always helpful and willing to provide the parts I need and provide the tech support to all........ 110%+

intermeccanica: Henry Reisner--Always willing to go the extra mile to make it right no matter who actually made it wrong, even doing so during a pending severe thunderstorm...that evening will set in my mind forever. The day I hit the Lottery I'll be calling 1-800 HENRY ....110%

Bob - ten years ago I was in John's shop checking on the progress of my build. During my visit, I witnessed an exact copy of the events you have so ably described. John fixed a problem on a second owner car who just drove into the shop unannounced. After several hours work,John charged him nothing.

After the happy owner had left the shop, John made two comments that have stayed with me over the years:

"He (the current owner) may own the car - BUT THEY ARE ALL STILL MY CARS"!

On not charging the owner any money - "Do ya think that blew his mind"?
