One of my favorite Monty Python skits comes to mind...

Client at Clinic: Could you please direct me to the Argument Clinic.

Receptionist: Yes, down the hall 3rd door on right. You'll see the Argument Clinic sign on the door.

Client walks as directed through the 3rd door with the posted Argument Clinic sign.

Client: Is this the Argument Clinic.

Instructor: No it isn't!

Client: But the sign on the door says Argument Clinic.

Instructor: No it doesn't!

Client: It most certainly does say Argument Clinic!

Instructor: No it doesn't!

No, it's Jim who likes Chicken Pot Pie!

Actually, chicken pot pie is a lot like this thread-- most people like it, even when they say they don't. There's a whole lot of stuff that's bad in it, and it's hard to tell what's in it that's good for anybody. A lot of what's in it is just filler. Nobody is going to die from it, but it isn't making anybody healthier for having consumed it.

Thanks for your service. I'm glad you made it home safe.

I think you'll find that a lot of the guys here all have a lot more in common than just the cars. I'd hate to see this silly thread turn a bunch of good guys into enemies.

We should all agree to disagree on this one. Deep down we're all here to talk **** about cars and have a good time.

Thanks again for your service in Viet Nam.

Ted

whew--final thought on the original topic--my car has been driveable all along--just pops out of reverse if backing up steep inclines -and the trans is being replaced at no cost to me--at 3000 miles my JPS has been a lot of fun and gets tremendous amount of positive comments at many car shows--one woman wanted to take it home and put it in her bedroom--!! she didnt say if I should be in it though!

Once again, I said he prompted me to research information in my state, that is all.
No more no less that is all.
I now know what Flyenby meant by (I hope that it causes you no grief.) lmao

You don't read to understand, you read to reply, we all need to work on that.
I got the Washington reference.

I was ignored by Art, oh well no sleep lost,
I now dare any of you to look at all my posts and tell me, what I did so wrong.

Don't bother I don't care.

You did no wrong in my mind. Sorry for any harm caused. You only pointed out the obvious.  Nor did you slander me.

I'm glad you unblocked me Art, thank you very much.
It was never my intent to anger you, for that I am truley sorry.

Yes ALB you are about 2 hours 45 minutes to 3 hours away, I haven't been to SIR in years, I used to love going there and smelling the fuel burn. lol
I need to get back out there and run some laps on my bike and the car.

Interesting reading from the perspective of a new guy with a JPS landing next week.

Obviously there are some hard feelings.  I have no clear reference knowing next to nothing of the circumstances or of the parties involved.

I think because these cars are more or less each "one offs" the chances of problems arising as compared to factory built cars would be understandably much much higher.

The test of the builder would be how he handles these challenges.  From the reading that seems to be more of a issue then the actually defects in the car(s)     I realize working with the public how difficult some people can be on both sides of these types of issues.  I am a dentist and trust me there have been a number of times when it was just easier to give the money back then to have to fight the never ending game of "my dentures don't fit"  I know as well there are plenty of dentists who are arrogant beyond belief.  Car buying and ownership no different (people are people).  Make a reasonable effort but then who decides what's reasonable?   I guess we the readers do but it's a bit one sided reading in my view.  I am trusting that in all of these transactions the bad you hear about while the vast majority of the good gets no press.  (My reasonable assumption at this point in time) We should learn from our mistakes and be as forgiving as possible as well.

I have taken a leap of faith and I trust that I will be a good owner/ driver and that I will be able to learn from everyone else's experiences and in time perhaps I can make some meaningful contributions to the collective wisdom. I will remain both open minded and trusting that problems found can usually be resolved if all parties deal with each other as gentleman.  I believe my expectations are reasonable as well.

John Steele and David Bash have both been very helpful with this "car deal" to this point.

We learn every day.   I look forward to the adventure.  I'll keep the collective "you" informed.

I've wanted one for ten years so at last my chance has come.

As a PS think you vietnam vets for your service.   I didn't have to "go" but it was a close call and I've felt some guilt.   I am a vet but served fighting the battle of tooth decay a couple of years after that mess was over.  1973 to 75 at Fort Bragg NC.    My draft in 1968 was cancelled because of my acceptance into dental school or I probably would have been there.   I was one of the lucky ones and I know it.

Would you also be the one that removed those teeth ? If so, and you can't get the job done to the satisfaction of the client, you can just walk away by giving a refund and call it a day ?

I'm sure I'm missing something here.   Thanks

Aw, come on, David. If you've got the rag on for dentists in general, man up and say so.  John's post made no reference to fault or malpractice.  The analogy he was trying to make, and did so successfully in my opinion, is that the two parties to any business transaction, whether it be building a car or supplying dental services, can disagree about the success or failure of the outcome.  As a supplier of services, John has had occasion to give a refund rather than argue the outcome.

Humm,  Doesn't look like a Miata to me and I've had three of them.

In every respect the Miata is probably a better car then the subjects of our discussion but there is something which draws us to them.   What is that?  Might vary individual to individual.  For me I think there are two.  I just love the "looks" of the vintage sports cars and I like to have something different.    A used Boxster or a Miata or a you name it are probably a more logical choice.  Actually my first choice is an Austin Healey 3000 but a good one is just stupid money.   I buy and sell and I've had any number of different sports cars and have liked them all.   This JPS subie Coupe is just one different deal.    I like looking at it in the garage and if I couldn't drive it I'd still get a kick out of it.    A bucket list deal maybe too.
