I'll go ahead and be the first to tell you JPS aka John Steele, does a very nice speedster build. John goes out of his way to customize and do just about any request a customer has and pays attention to detail.
In fairness, there are also a number of other "makers" that build a very nice product.
Best to click on the makers tabs here and as I always suggest, take the time to visit the makers that have caught your interest.

Although I have an old IM I've dealt with John for some trim items and such. He is a great guy, always willing to talk to you and help you out in any way he can. I've seen his cars and Alan is right he does a great job! Alan is also right about what others have to offer - not to take ANYTHING away from John but it's always a good thing to check them all out!
Does anyone know if JPS has delivered any coupes yet? I'd love to see pics of totally finished product. I may need to start clearing some garage space. And to reiterate, the few calls I have placed to John in the past have shown him to be a real gentleman who loves what he does and has genuine concern about the product he puts out.
Ok, I hate to sound like the bad seed in this optomistic group. HOWEVER-I have a 1990 CMC that I'm having issues getting smog checked. John suggested I cut and run. Not the answer I was expecting. To his credit-he builds an excellent car, has the nicest interior parts, and is willing to help is most ways. I guess my first experience with him was daunting, but in our continued convos he has been pretty cool.
Yes he suggested I sell the car. Just not the help I was looking for. As for getting mine to pass smog it has to pass 1970 smog requirements. So the stock carb and distributor, and two other small pieces that cost me $20. Still have to find the distributor and intake manifold. Anyone have a 70-ish stock DP intake and distributor they want to part with?

Also the car was built in 1990 which was when the smog exempt was 1965 and below. The pan is a 72. The builder had no reason to register it was a VW. Finding a stock bug that has all the smog eqiupment in CA is almost impossible. I will keep you all updated on my progress with the CA smog(bastards) people.
