I licensed a 2013 SAS coupe with California DMV in Jan. 2012, using the SB100 specialty-construction method.  It took me 2 trips to my hometown DMV office, but I got it done.  There are lots of sites on the net with beginning-to-end instructions on how to do it.  Google SB100 registration and you'll get lots of hits.  Best of luck, it's very doable.
