Does anyine here have a speedster made by JPS? Wondering about feedback from working with them. The one in the photos is from them but the engine was smoky. It was for sale on ebay, not sure if it sold. Thanks!

I have one. I had a lot of teething issues for the first couple of years. Penny's perfect now.
Feel free to contact me if you'd like to talk.

Thanks Terry. Will be in touch.
Terry is a stand up guy. I'll vouch for him & his word.
Julio.
I think we discussed it, but just to be sure you are aware, the car in the pictures is not a super widebody, it is the inbetween version. Nothing wrong with it, but it is not always obvious to new members just starting to learn about Speedsters.
One more thing. Based on the photos, that car seems to have some sort of serious suspension problem.
Troy, what are you seeing?
Nice looking car, I've always liked the soft flared bodies.
Julio, rotate the pictures you post please and keep em coming as you progress
Here are the photos of this same care rotated. It was made by JPS but the owner was selling it with very low miles. The engine smoked on ignition and idle, smoke stopped when it warmed up but I lost interest due to this.

The car in your avatar looks to be a superwide and this one looks almost identical.
How much?
He wanted $34K it had some options, Subaru power discsx4 etc but it smoked, only had 1400 miles on it. My guess is they did not break it in correctly. Nice pictures though.

Wait a minute. What?
I think that's way to much for an unhealthy motor...

Almost, but not identical. It is not a super widebody. Look closely at the flares, they are not as wide. The front flares come to a sharp edge on the in between version and have a flattened edge on the super widebody. The flares on a super widebody are much more like the flares on a Porsche 930.
That car also has rocker panel trim, which is seldom seen on flared cars.
Troy, I meant the color/wheels/Fog Lights scheme of the two cars...

I can see why. It just doesn't look right. I think flares require clean lines or it's too busy looking for such a small car.

I was joking Bill. His pictures had the car standing on it's nose and rear.
Smoky motor?????? It's either fuel or oil, in this case or water. Oil bad, Fuel could be bad or just a mixture adjustment, water its trash and needs a new motor or head gasket work.
You can get a JDM motor around 800 bucks, but then there is the labor of installing it.
35k with possibly a bad motor is a bit over priced.
Also, JPS motors suby motors have cooling issues and you'll spend a few buck fixing or redoing some stuff there not to mention some other "sorting out" that won't be cheep.
25K and plan on spending 10k in making it right.
Some more photos of this car, and another I found on ebay but already sold with similar look. Wide or intermediate??

Wide but not super wide, I like it...
Like Bill Said. I don't see a superwide body in any of the pictures that show the fenders.

Here's some photos from one of Troy's Super Wide Body cars:
Troy, that was a very nice green machine.. I am late to that party, would've definitely considered that one. Thanks for the detailed photos Robert. I guess I am looking at wide than, not super. will continue to research this further. Thank you guys.

Look closely at the differences. Somehow my reply got inserted into ou comment Julio, my apologies.

The silver one in this set of photos is wide or superwide? The red one must be super wide
You seem to be over thinking this whole thing already. What with wanting to buy a roller, then a completed car, then a CB motor, Ranch transmission, etc. Go to Carlisle, look at all the cars, ask the owners questions, talk to one of the builders (Carey from Beck will probably be there), sit in them, ask to go for a ride. If not there are probably some members near you that would probably meet with you and show you their cars as well. Do a member search and filter it by the map function. Send them PM's and see what happens. Make sure they're active members by seeing when they last posted on the forum, otherwise you may not hear back from them.
A new car, from any builder, has a SMALL chance of having problems but that chance is minimal. Troy has three cars he's prepping for sale if you want used. VS is a reputable place, and yes, there have been some recent problems, but Kirk has handled them and hopefully he's made corrections.
You'd be well within your rights to ask what he's done to make sure there aren't any more engine problems. My VS built car is 15 years old and came with a stock 1915 cc engine and it is running very strong to this day. BTW, I got it from Troy for a reasonable price.
Based on what you want to do with this car you're probably not going to need all this torque and horsepower people are throwing at you, but you will need a reliable car.
Thanks Robert. I have always wanted a turn key. Hadn't thought about going to Carlisle. Will look into it. Thanks again.
Julio, have you ever driven one or sat in one?
I've sat inside an OEM 356 several times at my Porsche dealer. Have declined the test drive as I'm not going to buy it obviously.
It just felt right. I'm driving a VS wide from my friend who lives in Boston when he comes to Miami around the 10th. Looking forward to that.
That's a good start. Test drive a replica that is well sorted and take it from there...

Hummm? Based on all of the other conversations I've had with you, I sure thought you wanted a superwide body. Obviously, whatever appeals to you the most is what you should get, but I don't care for the in between version. I'm not sure there is anybody on the SOC that has one anymore, but Gerd did have from JPS several years ago. From my experience, they are harder to sell if that matters to you, because most Vintage widebody buyers want to go all the way.

So True. Thanks!
I was looking for an exact comparison for Julio but you beat me to it.
Julio, now can you see the dif? There are three styles of flared fenders that I am aware of...
Robert and Bill, I see the difference. So what does the third style of Flared look like then? I think I'm going to go all out.
The first car you posted is the third style, what I call a softer flare. CMC/FiberFab wide body are the most common flared cars you might see. Vintage and JPS use to offer these softer flared bodies I believe.
Troy is the expert "Super Wide" guy in house...
Alan Merklin rebuilt a JPS with hard top, anyone got those pics?
That green one (1MAT300) kinda reminds me of my sister.........
Oooooooo!!!!!! She's gonna get you for that one, Gordon.
