Update; my second tach finally gave up the ghost. It was working erratically on and off and one day it just stopped working. If I mess with the connections in the back nothing happens. I already emailed Kirk to see where I can get it fixed or get a replacement...

No word from Kirk yet.

As indicated in another post Kirk got back to me and told me he had problems with that batch; the factory in China had to re-do the order; he's expecting shipment of new ones in a couple of weeks. I ended up deciding to send the unit to North Hollywood Speedometer to get "VDO'd" (innards changed to VDO); I figure that way the fix will be permanent or so I hope.

Tach is already on a plane to North Hollywood Speedometers....

For what it's worth, I switched the points to an electronic ignition today and my problems with the tach went away......
Not sure if that was the solution but it's fixed for now.

As I informed in another post NH Speedometer just called me to inform me that the tach is ready for shipment. That's a fast turnaround time (just 5 days). I can't wait to install it and finally see my VDO tach in Chinese disguise working.....

Just out of curiosity, what are you guys spending for these Chinese knock-off tachs?

This one came with my car which was bought as a turn key. They are standard issue on Vintage Speedsters and JPS. Special Edition uses the Real McCoy Brazilian VDO's and so does Intermeccanica.

I just replaced my points with a compufire electronic points system and just like Steve's, my jumpy tack that used to bounce all over when idleing is as steady as can be now. In addition the car starts and runs so much better. It's like adding 5 to 10 more hp.

The tach got here last Friday; installed it over the weekend and it's working great. I recommend NH Speedometer to anyone with this problem.
