Hi all, new to this forum. Just bought a very nice speedster, very stock from Beck. Need some opinions about firming up the suspension. It rides very nice but it's a little soft for my taste. Especially the rear. Front end hooks up nicely but back floats a little when it follows. Getting the camber compensator from CP performance, so that should help. Any advice on shocks, tires, adjustable shocks? Goal is a stiffer more precise street suspension, not a race suspension. Thanks in advance

i finally got to say that first!

Hi Peter,
Let everyone know what you have first, i.e, tube frame, VW pan, if pan, what year, so is it swing axle, IRS, etc? The more info you can give, the better the answers you will get back.
I just read your post again while typing. If you have bought a camber compensator, you must have a swing axle.
Welcome to the Beck family and the madness...
Go straight to the source, Carey Hines www.beckspeedster.com
Best advice you can get. He's out for the holidays, but you should be able to catch him next week.
Jim, all Becks are tube-framed with sing axles.
Peter, the camber compensator will change your world. If you need more, get some KYB GR-2 shocks. If you have the Kumho 155 tires, a switch to good 185s (Goodyear Eagle RSAs or Bridgestone RE970AS Pole Positions) will make it stickier.
Oh yeah, WTTM!!!!
Per a mechanics suggestion I had a set of Bilstein shocks installed shortly after receiving my Beck. It stiffened the ride and I think it handles better. BTW - congratulations on the car .... how about some pictures etc.
^^^
Yeah! What he said. We need photos, or it didn't happen.

great help guys, thanks. was looking at the continental conti sport tires, but will compare with your suggestion. here are early picts in the shop, will post new ones once TLC applied. overall a really nice car mechanically, needs attention.

along with the camber compensator (a "must have" for any swing arm car) I would go with the Bilstein shocks. MUCH better control than the KYBs I used to run and they don't react to every crack in the pavement, either.
One more question, i migrate from washington DC through North Carolina to Florida a few times per year. are there any must do events, meets, shows, cruises i should be on the lookout for. Did a vintage and super car rally last year called the Mountain Mille in west Virginia with my Lambo and that was great fun. Looking to do similar events with the 356.
Thanks.
If you're on the east coast, Carlisle in mid-May is the most "must do" event of all. Check out the thread in the "Events" forum.
We have also had several gatherings in the Smokies in the fall, although we skipped it this year. Again, any such events will show up in the Events forum.
TRahn or Anyone,
Can you give me the part number/type for both the front and rear Bilstein shocks you have on your SE/Beck?
Thanks
Thanks, will follow the events forum
sorry .... don't have a part #
I'll try to get some I.D for you next time I have a wheel off
Peter - Welcome to The Madness (known as Speedster replica ownership)!
Congrats on your new ride. I believe you will find it delivers a lot of bang for the buck! The Carlisle event in PA is a great family oriented event with down-to-earth like-minded folks having a good time.
Here is a video of last year's 10th Anniversary of this SOC gathering. Hope to see you there.
NOTE: When video begins, click 'Gear' icon and adjust video quality to 720HD for better viewing.
Peter:
If you're in Florida January 25-26, 2014, then find your way to Daytona for the Rolex 24 hours race. No Lambos there, but two days of amazing racing and you get full access to the garage/driver areas.
ok guys, finally had some quality time with the car, not perfect yet but made some real progress. mechanicals are great and the bigger tires, camber compensator and koni sport shocks have made a real difference, can even drift it a little now. great un!

Car looks great, Peter! I'm sure you're having a ball driving that bad boy!
Drift a little?! Okay, it's clear you're a busing the ole girl already. Hand over the keys.
