Hello everyone, I just bought a new Speedster and trying to figure what first accessory option to get from Vintage Speedsters. I know this new baby is going to be burning some holes in my pockets. Of course, I am replacing my windshield due to a crack, so now I have a great opportunity to add a full tonneau cover. That will be a done deal. But here is my dilemma. Should I add the bumper guards OR add the grills to the headlights. Which do you prefer because I can only do one accessory. I like the look of the bumpers, and although the grills are cool, I would worry that they may stress crack the fiberglass around the headlights. So let's hear some opinions, while I await delivery from Oregon to Long Island, NY. in baiting breath. Thanks. Steven
PS here are some pics of my new baby.

Pretty car. And thank goodness you got the 1600 super. The 1600 just won't do. HaHa. I've got the 1600 super badge on my 2.0L car. WTTM (welcome to the Madness). Go with the grills and forget the bumper guards. Car looks better without them, IMHO.
WttM . I think the bumper over-riders add a finished look. I'd get a right hand side mirror with a convex glass - greatly increases rear visibility and safety. Plus you need a SOC grille badge for engine lid! I've never see headlight grilles cause damage BUT some require removal of headlight glass. Save some $ for a good shifter.

575,
I was the creator of the SOC badge last year, a limited edition of 100 went quite quickly.
Unless there is someone who wants to let theirs go, they are all gone from this end.
Sorry

Please have someone video you doing donuts in the grass where you photographed your car. That is a tradition here on SOC. Hurry up and get it done.
You should also upgrade your membership to the premium Supporting Member. You will gain valuable access to the members only areas as well as documentation on your car. $50 bucks and worth every penny.
...also, another thing that is well worth the money is the Hibachi Grill for your engine compartment deck lid. Cheap and very handy.
I'll have mine medium well, thank you. BTW, that's the Great Smokey Mountain National Park in the background. This shot was taken on the Foothills Parkway, a beautiful 18 mile drive full of twists and turns. Unfortunately, 45 mph speed limit and enforced.
Were you aware that the people at George Foreman are working on a grill for us? Still in design but they expect to be in production before summer 2016.
I know this sounds insane and completely illegal but a few years back I averaged over 100 mph through the Foothills on a Ducati 916. Lots of nice gentle sweepers. Of course I almost died on that bike 1.5 years ago. But that's another story. Yes I was one of the idiots you cursed at.
Welcome to the madness, 57...if that is in fact your real name.
For about the same money as the bling stuff, you could add some driving lights which you will really love on a back road on a dark night. Drive this car at night and you'll see what I mean. 2 cents cause you asked
If this keeps up at $0.02 per post, you'll have what you need in no time -- LOL
My priority would be, assuming that the windshield is taken care of first-off, and since you asked:
1. Driving lights - $$$. Std headlights are poor, and not useful for "spirited" driving in the dark.
2. Third brake light mounted in upper engine grill location - $$
3. CSP shifter -$$$
4. Light grills (not birdcage); and they should not harm the FG. Mine went right over the glass, no problem. -$$
5. "Objects in mirror look smaller and are farther away than they really are" , i.e., convex, right side mirror -$
6. Bumper thingies, which can look cool, but I am more or less indifferent about. -$$
7. Somebody's SOC grill badge, if you can find one -- $
Rusty, Earlier this month in Florida Tom tried a prototype barbecue grill on his 356. Wasn't a successful test so he contacted Rich in Chicago and bought a new grill. Expensive test!
I should have mentioned at least a good (large) halon fire extinguisher ($90) and replacement European Spec H4 head light replacements ($80) --- the old sealed beam incandescents are not effective.
+1 on the European H4. I got them on mine, the difference in focus and brightness between the US and euro is big. Not as bright as the HIDs on my Audi, but better than stock rounds.
I've got the headlight grills and love the look. The front needs a little something and they are reasonably priced and easy to do. That said driving lights are on my list for this year as well.
Steven - NICE score on the Speedster! Welcome To The Madness known as replica Speedster ownership!
Its your baby so do what you like best. Everybody on this site is very helpful and don't mind helping you spend your hard-earned money.
Seriously, this SOC site is one-stop-shop for anything and everything Speedster. Now get out there and drive that bad-boy like you stole it!
Rusty,
You can always put a hotdogger on the exhaust like we do snowmobiling. Then you are always cooking.

Rusty, your new avatar is hilarious!
Steven;
If you are replacing your windshield and do not have vents in the dash (some do not ,mostly CMC's) now is the time (only) to make this change.

Good idea Art. I may have one of the only Spyders with defrost and heat! I had the windshield off for a repaint and cut the holes then.

Has anyone seen a nice little 12v blower with two outlets that could feed those defrost vents? I've got lot's of heat but a defrost blower would be a bonus.
I'veu seen those Art but they blow one way so you'd need two, plus reducers to get down to the 2" size needed.
I don't know how much air they push, but the little 12V fans in pc's. The one I saw listed at Radio Shack was about 1.5W.
here this is easier:

57 speedster,
Point your new Speedster towards Carlisle, Pa the weekend of May 14th and join the madness at Speedsters Meet Spyders. You'll have a chance to see MANY other Speedsters, talk to other owners and see what others have done to their rides. Plus you'll be able to talk face-to-face of some of the BEST Speedster manufacturers in the business.

Where would you suggest buying and the brand of driving or fog lights for my Speedster?
Do they make some type of bracket that mounts them using the bumper brackets, so I would not have to drill into the bumper??? The name is Steve, and thanks for good advice. Thanks

Also driving or fog lights. What brand and where to purchase do you suggest. Also is there a way to mount the fogs using the bumper mount brackets so I don't have to drill into my nice flawless bumper? Thanks for your help.

The third brake light can be set up for not too much money. Not sure where you buy the light set up, but I'm sure it can be sourced.
Intermeccanica puts one in each build these days.
I am having them put high signal lights in the louvers too.
I got my convex mirror at Stoddard. Very pricey, but also very good.

Anyone know of a good method to attach a from license plate on a Vintage Speedster? I don't want to drill holes. Im in NY and they require back AND FRONT license plates.
Thanks for all your advice. Steve
Steve, these things are available somewhere:
