Welcome 57Speedster, I am also from NY and don't want to drill holes in the bumper as either. I saw these on Samba and may try these or try a similiar type fabrication.

Steve, these things are available somewhere:

I would imagine you could fabricate a strap that spans the bumper brackets which would be hidden behind the bumper and the attach the plate with something like the bracket like on the Samba ad above.
I drove my car for 3 or 4 driving seasons without a front plate, but always practiced my speech to the arresting officer, "But officer, it just looks so much better without it, don't you think?" Never had to use it.
Ditto what Rich said. I carry it in the car, but not on the front. So far, nobody has asked . . .

I hate to say it but I think that would be pretty funny to have. So a cop, say me, pulls you over and says he stopped you for no front plate. You reach for your paperwork, press the switch, engage him in conversation, then explain you have a front plate. The cop walks up to the front of the car and sees the plate. He walks back, gives you your paperwork, and walks away scratching his head. I'd find it funny.
If this keeps up at $0.02 per post, you'll have what you need in no time -- LOL
My priority would be, assuming that the windshield is taken care of first-off, and since you asked:
1. Driving lights - $$$. Std headlights are poor, and not useful for "spirited" driving in the dark.
2. Third brake light mounted in upper engine grill location - $$
3. CSP shifter -$$$
4. Light grills (not birdcage); and they should not harm the FG. Mine went right over the glass, no problem. -$$
5. "Objects in mirror look smaller and are farther away than they really are" , i.e., convex, right side mirror -$
6. Bumper thingies, which can look cool, but I am more or less indifferent about. -$$
7. Somebody's SOC grill badge, if you can find one -- $
Here is a link to my third brake light project:
There's a guy on eBay in FL that has period correct looking Marchal 12v fog lights for $225 a pair. There are clamps that attach the lights to the bumper bracket but they will mostly shake a lot. I'd bite bullet and mount in recessed area on the front bumper --- using large stainless steel fender washers on either side.
I'm using a pair of early 914 Hella fog lights. The bezel is actually brass and can be polished to match the gold PORSCHE lettering.
Steve, I took an old plate and bent it in half lengthwise to about 90 degrees and bolted it to the bottom of the front bumper. The new plate bolts to the top holes of the mounted plate. No holes or bolts show unless you get down and look under the bumper. I only do it to get the inspection sticker required in Mass. and then it goes in the trunk . Going on 8 years and never stopped for plate violations. I leave the bolts and all attached to the plates. If I get stopped I'll tell the officer that I took it off for a car show, (not a lie), apologize profusely and put it back on in about 2 min. Most of the police I have met have some common sense and have bigger fish to fry.
The third brake light can be hidden inside the deck grill as some have done here. I chose to make a bracket that bolts to the bracket behind the rear plate. The led truck marker light sits above the rear plate and shows up really well. Wires and tiny hole are also hidden behind the plate.
You can spend lots of money on driving lights. I have Hella lights that could be for a Jeep but I chose function over form. They may not be period correct but they'll knock over trash cans at 100 yards, which is good enough for my needs. I made "L" brackets that clamp on the bumper brackets. No holes in bumper. It's your car, do whatever gets you on the road with the wheels rolling round and round. You can always look for "correct " lights when you hit the lottery. Good luck.
My buddy Don has a pair of these on his '34 ford custom street rod: http://www.hotrodhotline.com/s...cle-car#.VRRXZuGJRD0
He pushes a button and both plates swing up out of sight.
I do not worry a whole lot about not running a front plate even though it is the law. I've found over the years playing with cars that if you are driving a classic car, street rod or custom, even a replica, the police generally will not bother you...unless of course the officer really wants to see your car up close and even then they tend not hassle you about things...but that depends upon if you were doing something 'Stoopid" before being pulled over, then they might throw the book at you and ticket everything they find wrong...
I have two dumb holes in my front bumper from good ole Al. I need to fill them with something. I won't be a front plate bracket.
I've been meaning to replace the crappy nuts I put in there a while ago. I should get on that...
Yep. That's exactly what I have done with my Speedster. Two small holes drilled inconspicuously under the bumper, and a couple of pieces of horizontal steel bent vertically to mount the plate on.
I drove for a couple of years without a front plate and never got stopped. But I was always a little nervous when cops/officers of the law would meet me oncoming.
I did get stopped once years ago in my TR6 for the same reason. The guy followed me, and then turned on his siren and lights as if I were a major criminal. He even did a U-turn on a four lane highway to follow me for about a mile.
He did not have a sense of humour, nor did he appreciate old cars.
Ted;
Lowes and Orchard Supply sell plastic push caps, commonly used in the automotive industry to cover up screws , nuts, etc in the interiors. Located in the hardware department with all the other specialty nuts and bolts. As I recall.
Yup, they're called Caplugs:
All the DIY stores have them, and often can be found at auto parts stores in the OE-replacement rack. Sometimes hard to find in the stores as they put then in odd places, but they're there..... Hardware stores have them, too.
No bumper on a Spyder, so I installed a couple of Rivnuts in the "oil cooler grille" area before I painted it. I keep my plate behind the seat with bolts in it, held by a couple of O-rings so I don't lose them. I'll do it just like Al Gallo above, if I ever get stopped for it.
Well this is what I came up with from good old Home Depot. All stainless steel hardware brackets, bolts, washers, lock washers, and nuts. I have to shorten one side so the plate sits nearly (though not quite) flush with the bumper.
where in new york are you located?

i suppose there is a lot more policing to go around on the island. up here in central new york i don't see as much nit-picky enforcement. may also be because i have assumed the disguise of gray hair.... seems like i get pulled over a lot less as an old-timer.... maybe seen as less threatening than the kids.
i had an '07 mini s, traded it in on an '09 cooperworks car. great up-grade.
