Hey everyone, so I'll make this short and to the point. I was flipping through craigslist and came across this speedster, mounted to the chassis with running motor. Bought it for $8,000 and it came with the title, box of headlights, tail lights, doors, hoods, swag etc. Did I make a good purchase? Does anyone recognize the kit body? Suggestions on where to go from here? I drove it onto the trailer when I bought it. Thanks guys/ gals.

Looks like a typical CMC/Fiberfab.  I should have a complete parts list somewhere if you need it, just let me know.  Wolfgang probably has a complete parts list, too.

"Did I make a good purchase?"

Kinda-sorta depends on where you live, but $8K for a running roller is more-or-less decent money.

"Does anyone recognize the kit body?"

CMC/Fiberfab (they're the same thing) is my guess, but find the fiberglass 'bumpers' for the tops of the door (it's a trim piece) and show us a picture and we'll tell from that - If it's a CMC they would be half-rounds, rather than rectangular.

"Suggestions on where to go from here?"

BUILD IT!  Just don't believe CMC's claim of building it in 40 hours - more like 400 hours!

Really?  wow!  Well, it's gonna be a long journey, but we're all here to help.

Become a donating SOC supporter and download the CMC build manual.  In addition to assembly instructions you can see what parts go where and if any are missing.  For most parts, http://vintagespeedsterparts.com/ is a good source - but VS and Beck can be too as well as Seduction Motors.

You may find a CMC gold 2x2" id badge with body/PO # and the steering wheel or polished aluminum hood handle may have the CMC "Classic Speedster" crest (often replaced with a PORSCHE crest).

Incredibly helpful! Thank you very much for your input and knowledge. I'm going to remove the body and start from scratch. Thanks for your input on the price as well... Makes me feel a little better about it.

Great! Thank you for your input!! I might as well just get the manual.

Red: (is that your real name?)

There are a bunch of us on here with CMC/Fiberfab cars that we've built....  Some of us more than one! (The "Madness" runs strong in us) and others are still building their first one.  Pretty much everything you'll need to know to build your car is either on this site or in our heads.

A great place to start is the "search" function (little magnifying glass at the top of this page) - toss in some keywords and see what pops out.  Ya-nevah-know.

I built my first one in the 1990's as therapy for an over-stressed job.  There are lots of other reasons on here, but we all love these little cars - That's why we call it "The Madness".

Good luck with your build.  Keep asking questions and we'll keep answering them.  Becoming a "Donating Member" will unlock a treasure-trove of CMC/Fiberfab stuff up under the "Resources" and Library tabs - stuff that might come in handy during your build.....Like full build manuals!  What will really help, though, are the tips and tricks that most of us have learned, mostly by hanging out on here.  I'm sure you'll meet a bunch of new friends, too.

Here's my CMC at the Carlisle (PA) Kit Car show a few years back:
