So, just felt I had to post as was very excited for myself.

First, yesterday I replaced my fan belt.  For someone as mechanically challenged as I am I'm super proud.  Gates 7355 installed and nicely fit (15mm deflection - pre-stretch).  Huge thanks to this forum for everything to do with diagnosing an ignition light, fan belt, which fan belt to buy, and how to change (plush a couple good YouTube videos).  Super proud of my limited skills.

Today I drove the car to work (81*F in SoCal today) and am work late (still here).  Colleague decided my car looked good for a photo shoot and just sent me this photo.  Best photo of my car to date (too bad it was an iPhone and not a DSLR)!

Anyways, proud papa.

Thanks for listening.

Yah do not sell yourself short,  I have been tinkering with VWs for over 3 decades and fan belt replace and adjust is not a no brainer.  Be sure to check deflection/tension in a couple hundred miles.  While better too loose than to tight just right is best.  If too loose you glaze the belt and it slips.  To tight ….well let us not even go there….

Love those pictures Troy, use them all the time.  I have that page permalinked on my phone when people ask about the car.  Just nice to have some photos of my own as well.

Okay, that might be stretching it a bit, but thanks.

Don't sell yourself short. You may not think of yourself as "mechanically inclined", but this stuff really isn't that hard; if half the guys passing themselves off as mechanics can do it, so can you. Take your time and you'll surprise yourself at how much you'll learn to do. The only down side will be the amount invested in your tool box . Al
