If you would like to advertise, we have monthly plans available for merchants.

We encourage new owners to post enthusiastically. However, commercial advertisements are not allowed without first enrolling in a merchant program.

So we don't mistakenly "cross the line" when using a bit of hyperbole to describe the builder that we selected to build our car (and thereby infer we have a valuable car that deserves attention) can you please explain what criteria you use to determine what's boasting and what's advertising?

Kirk nor any of the people that work or sell cars for Kirk promote Vintage on this site. We are the owners of the Vintage Speedster Moreover, if Kirk was not the good natured man that he is, well you would hear about that as well.

If a post offends the Moderator, why not just delete the thread rather than leaving the post up but removing the content?
Just to explain.
1) I removed one post and it was added again, hence the reason this one had an explanationand wasn't just deleted.
2) Praise for a vendor is great, but praise for your own business is unsolicited advertising.

David, I guess you saw the original (now deleted) post. I didn't. By leaving the original thread in tact, but erasing the offending post, those of us who never saw the first post are left to speculate on exactly what was wrong, when the only person that really needed to know was the person who made the first post to begin with. It could have been handled better privately IMO.
This site seems to have no moderation whatsoever (or it's invisible), then, suddenly, a public crackdown. Seemed strange to me, but I'm just a lurker not a paying customer.

I think that you are a bit off base on the "crackdown" statement ....Actually this site like so few others happens to run very well on it's own without any "moderation" necessary.

Ok please look at it this way.
You are the owner of the largest billboard in a town where every visitor owns a Speedster or Spyder. Or lets say they may be in the market to buy one.
Then one day you go out to look at your billboard that you built and find that someone has put up a big advertisement for ABC Speedster CO. And everyone is looking at it. But no one has ever paid you to use it. What do you do?
I would remove the Ad and send a message to everyone don't try this I am watching you.
Thats all that Theron has done. I dont think that he was so much offended. But he is not going to let people take advantage of the club or it's paid Vendors..

My job as the moderator is to try and be invisible as possible. I do actively moderate, I do contact people off site, I suffle and delete posts several times a day. I don't intervene in a thread unless someone is way out of line. I do give people the benefit of the doubt. Perhaps this dealer didn't know that posting unsolicited ads isn't allowed. So I deleted the first ad. When a second showed up using a different account and claiming to be an owner, it was time to nip-it-in-the-bud. By allowing the post to stay without removing it, I would just be advertising for them. So, the thread stays, but with a kind warning.
BTW, I take it as a real compliment that you haven't seen active moderation on the forum. It must mean I'm doing my job well. :)
I'll slip back into the shadows now...
