Just picked up this IM Roadster D

Welcome to the Madness as we say. The seats look like 914 seats and if its an early IM and pan based the width of the seat will determine your future choices.

Also add remove plastic fuel filter from the engine bay to your list.

Not sure if you can change the knob on a Berg, although I know they now make a round knob shifter.  You could also replace it with a CSP for a similar feel but more traditional looks.  Either way is a bit pricey.  There may be less expensive alternatives that look more appropriate. such as a Vintage Speed, but I am not sure how they feel.

x2 on removal of the plastic filter.  That's a serious fire hazard as are the fancy glass ones.  Go with metal.

The seats are 914, (they are very comfortable) and the pan looks VW to me, although i thought 1986 was year that went to IM (read this in the brochures that came with the car)? I will take my time hunting seats - would like something low-back that folds forward. There are some on the Samba but big bucks. I might try a set of type III's and see how they fit (friend has an extra set out of his Notch).

I will most likely take the Gene Berg apart and see if i can figure something out - really is a sweet setup, just ugly. Thanks for the tips!

Yes, You can replace the berg T  into a Knob.

Sounds like you have pretty cool  driving options between your IM and split-window! 

The replacement knob also has a reverse lockout button

I think 1986 was the year Henry switched to space frame.  But some 86's were also pans.

Those are '71-76 Porsche 914 seats.  With a little fiberglass surgery and stitching the head rests can be removed and they will look like VS speedster seats. Seats are work in process - want them re-done in tan.

Hah! If it was an original Porsche part (or aftermarket aimed at that crowd) it would be 3 or 4 times that price.

Well, you know........with just the shift knob at $95 Samolians, Ol' Gene is right up there with vintage "P-Part" pricing - Maybe even a little higher.  

I know his stuff is good...I've even bought a lot of it over the years, but a $95 shift knob to fit my existing shift lever?
