Yes you can tap into the ground on the headlight plug ground wire

Does it matter which prong connector I use on the parking light and turn signal?
i could probably just get a battary and test them... LOL!
Also, I tried calling you but went straight to voicemail. I got declined
Rather then taping into the headlight ground, can I just give each light it's own ground and attach them to the mounting screws?
Sure that will work too

.............Either terminal. I lost the phone in the shop it went dead.
So I ordered an "engine grill seal" from Sierra Madre Collection... is it me, or is it supposed to be this big?!?!? What the heck...

Somebody screwed up, but if you didn't pay crazy money and if fits other than the length cut it down.

Even if I cut it down, how will it attach to the grill? I shouldn't have to glue it to the grill...
It's the madness... so frustrating... but how in the world can you be THIS off... the thing is HUGE compared to the grill...
Not completely sure but I think there is a joint at the bottom on most grills where the rubber meets.

With the design of the rubber seal, I could only see tension holding it in place if the piece was cut to the appropriate length. I don't have a lip or joint on my engine grill that you could push the seal in place to hold it.
I just sent them an email with the pics I took.
The part is cheap. To me, it is more about the principles. I'm hoping they see that and send another out that does not require me to cut/glue/keep my fingers crossed it fits.
And I was about to spend $$$ on the rest of the emblems and decals too. If this inexpensive part represents their quality
I have ordered a lot of parts from Sierra Madre. No problems yet and I have been happy with the quality of their parts. They are not cheap, but all P parts dealers are proud of their stuff.
I also bought my engine grille gasket from them. It was the correct length to fit around the grille. It looks like someone messed up on yours! As Alan suggested, you could cut it to size. Cut it with a razor blade and use a tiny drop of super glue to stick it back together. The advantage would be that you can make it fit perfectly. I had to stretch mine a small amount. If you notice, the gasket has a figure 8 cross section. One half of the "8" is a little larger diameter. It goes under the rolled lip of the grille. It takes a little patience to get it fit correctly and then get the screws installed.
Hope this helps.
Sierra Madre' Never Again........... I bought a set of new chrome wheels they had on eBay auction, received the wheels, boxes were previously opened, and they had wheel weights on them... Seems that the sell wheel and tire packages and since they didn't sell well as sets , dismounted the tires from the wheels and still represented them as being new . Yes they were still new but as we all know once something is mounted it's used. Sierra Madra' would not do anything about the mis-representaion nor would eBay.

This was my first time ordering, so I'm happy to give them another chance. Let's see how they respond to my email come Monday.
I'll have to look again, but my engine grill does not have a lip that the gasket can sit in...

That's pretty bad and would make me stop using them.
I hope they just send out a correct one - the part cost and shipping would hardly hit the bottom line. If they don't, I'll order from another supplier and get the rest of my parts somewhere else.
What Alan experienced leaves a long, lingering, bad taste.
All retailers have employees whose primary concern is clocking in their eight hours. Sensitivity to consumer complaints isn't in their 'job description'....and they also have employees who are aware of the positive/negative effects of word-of-mouth reputations.
It'll be interesting to see which Sierra Madre employee answers Longfellow!

It will be interesting indeed!
It will be interesting to see what they say. The part number is an NLA/Stoddard part #... So I'm sure, like with many of their parts, masters Madre is just the middle man.
good luck!
I feel the same way Alan about UPS, (not USPS) I once bought a USA product and shipped it to Canada without my realizing that the seller was using UPS.
A five dollar item shipped and the brokerage fee was like $40 so I simply never received the package ... Never bought from that supplier again or anyone that ships via UPS to Canada.
And if, for whatever reason, you decide to try someone other than Sierra Madre, you can try International Mercantile: http://im356-911.com/index.php
I've had very good luck with them (and I haven't used Sierra Madre for 15 years).

UPS sucks. They always charge atrocious brokerage fees. I will never again order anything from a supplier that ships via UPS. They were forced by law to start phoning customers they are handling a product for, to get a verbal agreement that the customer will pay the brokerage fees, as there were so many complaints from customers who were unaware of the charges.
And then there is the 'handling charge' they add on top of everything, even for a very small package.
First class rip-off artists...
Fedex is now whacking us Canucks for importing stuff too. I bought a switch for my boat last August from the Lauderdale area and paid just over $100. CAD for the part and shipping. Fedex sent me a separate invoice about a month after delivery for $35.16 CAD for "brokerage and handling" . I now get anything I can shipped via USPS and some US businesses are starting to recognize the situation and are becoming more flexible in shipping.
Thanks for that info David it is funny that the company did not inform you of the brokerage issue before shipping
that is dissapointing
I now insist on USPS or ship to a border Ogdensburg UPS is an expensive item

They likely wouldn't have known, Ray and possibly wouldn't care, thinking it was a normal thing to happen anyway. I can't blame the supplier at all. Yes...they know me well at Rothel's in Ogdensburg.
A funny thing happened crossing the border into Upstate NY about a year ago to pick up a parcel. I was crossing alone in the truck, handed my passport to the US border guard and he sternly looked at me and said " I won't let you in ". Never happened before to me. I asked why and he said the passport doesn't belong to me. I gave him a WTF look ( carefully ) and he asked me my home address. Giving it to him he asked if I live alone. I said no, I'm married to......and then he said " Francine". Kripes...I took my Wife's passport to the border and had given it to him. He was a good guy and after asking my purpose for the crossing and time expected to be in the US he let me through.

The problem sometimes is not getting in, it's getting out
Bringing the issue back on point you crazy maddening SOC'ers
I got a reply email from Michael at SMC - he apologized for the mistake and shipped out a new seal today no charge. That is pretty darn good customer service!
I wish Doc had the same experience with is issue several years ago
SMC has been good to me. Never had an issue and I've ordered all my P car parts and emblems from them.
Good service. YMMV.
Ted

Got a few things done this morning in the small window I have before my girls wake up. Horn grill and signal installed with the correct rubber gasket. Porsche emblem on the hood handle and the "euro" coach works badge. I always get nervous drilling into the body, but everything turned out nicely

Finished the headlights! I decided to use the correct headlight to fender rubber from SMC. Kirk uses a different method and I wasn't liking the look IMO. I also finished all the front-end wiring. It's nicely tucked away (where I could) and wrapped in auto fabric tape. Each light has its own dedicated ground wire too.
Thank you Doc for helping me out with the three headlight wires and how they attach to the wiring harness.
Mandatory pics below. Oh and look at that gas tank! She's a beauty

Nicely done and I like the rubber edging as well.
What is the SMC part number you used for the headlights.
Oh, and it looks awesome!

X10. Well done.
What name color paint did you use on the directional switch to match the other beige ( banjo wheel etc?)
Looks awesome...
Also looks like the NLA (Stoddard) part number... A pair is a couple $$'s cheaper if sourced straight through NLA.
