Your going to get bored when you have nothing left to do on that car... just saying.

Yes I will. My wifey is also saying the same thing... LOL!
Once Eleanor is done, I am going to start build #2. It will be a coupe and I'll be sourcing everything (mostly everything) through Vintage Motorcars since I've come to trust and respect Greg. He really is a good guy and good family man.
The dilemma: Do I build a coupe on a shorten VW pan or a tube chassis?
I know Vintage Motorcars is currently designing/fabricating a tube chassis (like their spyders) for their coupe... I just don't know how far away they are from completing it...
I did some work on Eleanor yesterday after an adventurous Aquarium of the Pacific visit with the wifey and baby girl.
Huge thanks to @MusbJim for the rack install instructions. The hammertone looks great against the Aquamarine Blue paint - thanks @Will Hesch! The suitcase looks great too with that blue leather edging. I also got the Vintage 190 spare tire installed and strapped securely in place
I'll finish up painting the fan shroud and off she will go to Greg's for the new engine install, front beam fix, electric fuel pump, external oil cooler and fan, and a proper shake down before we hit the road to SLO!

Brian, your car looks so cool!
Those straps are so nice and the suitcase is perfect for your car.
I hope you have an un-eventful trip up to SLO, I'm looking forward to meeting you.
WOW. Very cool! Congrats!
Brian, that strap holding down the spare tire is pretty cool. If you had two it might allow you to use the center of the wheel to hold items but you would forgo the look.

I thought about the double strap, but after playing with the tire position I still have all the room under the tire where the battery is at. I've got a tool bag there now. I'll be mounting the scissor jack where the brake fluid is typically located on VS's...
Not my best paint job, but the shroud (bumped out for a type 4 cooler) is finished and ready for the new engine!

Some side we aren't looking at
I looked at Hoover's site on engine building.... lots of info on shrouds and making sure the air flow goes into and through the oil cooler ... have you looked at that Brian.
I have a "Hoover bit" if you need.
Last piece arrived today. Cocomats! Glad I went with the tan and off white. Matches the seats and almond white paint I used in the interior pretty well. I think the black cocomats would have been a little overwhelming.
Eleanor is ready to head up to Vintage Motorcars tomorrow morning. I'll admit, I'm a little nervous she won't be in my garage for a week but I know she's in good hands!

Looks great! Whats that lever between your seats?
/me ducks...
Your car really came out great Brian, it hits every button for me. QQ where did you get your P script for the dash.
That color combo is very easy to look at. Job well done!

If an emblem didn't come with the kit from VS, I sourced it from Sierra Madre Collection

I thought hard about the e-brake conversion...
Brian @*LongFella - you may already know this. but the pic with your top up looks like you hadn't pulled up the tension tabs (top doesn't look snug). Here are the tabs I speak of...
When you have the top up and fastened, pull these tabs up to take out the slack in the top.

Hey! You are correct. In that pic, I didn't have the tension on the top. Before I left this morning, I flipped the lever up
Just said bye-bye to Eleanor. She's resting at Greg's shop now until the new 2110cc is up and running.
Huge thank you to Greg for letting me help out and remove the 1915cc engine this morning. I always enjoy my time their.
FIngres crossed everything goes smooth and she's back home Monday or Tuesday. She will need a nice detail before the WCC!

Thanks! Did you pick your car up yet? I thought I saw it in the shop when I was there this morning removing my engine...
Should be ready to pick up tomorrow at the latest Brian. Greg is replacing the right rear IRS arm and putting in a thermostat for the oil cooler and rewiring the electrical for the fan. I'm anxious to drive it!
Greg's burning the midnight oil getting my engine up and running! That's customer service!!
I wonder what the power difference will be between a 1915cc and a 2110cc. I'm thinking the fun factor will swing to a bigger smiley face

It's looking good! And I think you're going to be pleasantly surprised. Could you take a pic of the intake ports? Does Greg have any idea what the intake port volume is? And I'm interested in at what rpm you find it runs out of power.
...for Pete's sake, put some hubcaps on that car, it looks naked!

Don't worry, Will. I just took the moons off temporarily while she is at Vintage Motorcars getting some work done.
I wasn't sure if I needed to remove the rims/tires when pulling the engine. My guess was wrong - a car lift is a wonderful thing to have and made the engine removal a breeze!
If all is going as planned, Greg should be firing up the new engine and doing the proper break-in procedure today
...long may she run!
that is long fella deeds

Greg is burning the midnight oil on both of our cars! He's hoping to have it ready tomorrow for pick up. I will run her this weekend to check temps and see if she's ready for SLO.

I second that emotion!
For the first little while, Brian, try not to sit at the same rpm's for any length of time. Keep on changing speeds as you're driving for the first few hundred miles.
PS- and don't worry about hubcaps; they're just extra weight...
Hello sexy 2110cc engine! Greg got the engine up and running yesterday. Few more additions to Eleanor and the engine will get installed and off we go!

...but don't forget the hubcaps...

I like the moons. It gives it the classic look, which is what I went for in my build.
The next build will have an outlaw look

Brian,
Glad to know you selected a 2110cc engine with 44 carbs . Last year Greg supervised the construction of my engine and so far I've been delighted with it. Unfortunately, it was not dyno tested but it is nothing to fool with if you know what I mean. In other words, it is a beast with more power than this old boy will ever need.
On another topic. I had not been happy with the EMPI oil filled shock absorbers that had been installed on the rear end of my car so just a couple of weeks ago I called Greg to get his advice about replacing them with gas shocks. He recommended that I replace them with EMPI gas charged performance shocks (#9656) which I did. Consider his advice and do the same if you have not already done so because I've notice a big difference in how much better the car now handles. Not only are they well worth the money, they won't blow the budget.

Are you using them all around or just in the rear? Is your Speedster lowered in the front with drop spindles or just lowered with the beam adjuster?

Gas assisted shocks usually make the front end too stiff, Robert, but they are a viable alternative for the rear.
