Esther -

I bought my old Rover Classic new 15 years ago. I've got it set up for some pretty hard-core 4-wheeling and relatively speaking, I've had pretty good luck with it, considering Ginny & I have taken it through some pretty crazy terrain (Rubicon, Moab, Big Bear, Shaver Lake, AZ, OR & WA) without too much trouble. I've logged 250K miles on it so far.

I traded in Ginny's '99 4.6 HSE in 2003 for the silver HSE (with the BMW 4.4L engine, 20" wheels). It's got all the bells & whistles plus it is a freeway flyer and a very comfortable town car. Ginny hauls the grandkids around town in it. She really likes the car. Once in a while she even lets me drive it! It has been trouble-free through the 70K miles we've put on it! Maybe, I can talk Ginny into letting me trade this one in for the new 2007 Supercharged HSE?
Jim...now Ginny's HSE they don't make it with the BMW engine any longer right? I love my Bimmer...but also like having my 350ML ...I can fold those seats down in the back and stuff a horse back there!!!I have always liked the looks of the HSE's but I was concern because I was told by so many people that they aren't mechanically sound vehicles so I ended up with the 350ML...but now I'm looking Shhhhh....lol ~ Esther
Our HSE has the 4.4L motor also used in the BMW 740IL (considering the weight of this car - it HAULS A$$!). I think the newer HSE's have a Jaguar engine. All I can say about the car's reliability is that I've never had any more problems than we've had with the various Mercedes, Porsches, BMWs we've owned.

Like I said earlier, we've logged 250K miles on my Classic, 110K on the 4.6 HSE and 70K on this HSE without any problems (with usual maintenance). We have tons of cargo space plus additional space with the rear seats folded down. The permanent all-wheel drive is a plus in the rain and snow (snow-board Mammoth, Big Bear). Then there's the $25K price difference over the ML...
