Hey guys, I'm one of those lurkers who has been looking at speedsters and this board for sometime. I think I'm about to take the plung and finally get one.

I found a nice clean VS in South Orange County, silver with blue interior and canvas tops. The owner is the orginal and didn't seem to know much about the car. I was wondering if Kirk keeps individual records/photos of each build?

Do you think Kirk likes to see the cars he has produced or do you think he enjoys working with the people while building/purchasing but then once there gone it's onto the next?

I don't think VS keeps much in the way of detailed records of past-built cars. I had called recently to inquire about a paint code for my yellow '97 and they didn't have that info (mine may have been the last of few yellow ones done by VS according to Kirk). Others here have reported dropping by with a used VS they just purchased and being favorably impressed with the service they received. Just call them if you have any questions, you will probably find they will try to be as helpful as possible.
Kirk keeps little or no records on the cars previously built, but has been very helpful whenever I've called with questions. Mine is his standard black color and he did furnish me with a paint code. I bought mine used in SoCal when I lived there and had Kirk check it out before I purchased it. He also made a few modifications so that the car would fit me after purchase (previous owner was 6'3" and I am 5'6"). He has been very accomdating and seems to value current owners of his cars as well as perspective buyers.
I've had the same experience with Kirk. He understands that not all Speedster Crazed freaks can afford to drop $21K on a new ride. I had gotten a bid for a new build but then ended up buying an "almost" new '01 VS from a guy in Portland. I called Kirk with a few questions about the car and he only had a brief memory of the car.

That said, he was very helpful with providing me with a few extra accessories.

If possible, I'd have Kirk or a VW expert check the car over before buying. This is my second Speedster. The first one I bought was an older IM. Although the car ran fine there were a few things that the general european mechanic who checked the car after I bought it didn't catch when someone who really knows these cars would have.

Hope that helps.

Can't say enough how helpful Kirk has been with my 94 VS. I bought it from someone who merely purchased the it from Kirk, and assembled it himself. Didn't matter, Kirk has been there every step of the way for my resto. Do a search for my previous posts in this regard.

Kirk has been great. Not only is this my first kit, it is the first car that I have ever worked on. I have dropped by Vintage and sent emails to Kirk on many occasions. He has always made time for me and has always answered my questions. I am sure many of my questions were idiotic, but Kirk always helped. Just give Kirk a call or an email.

It also helps that I live 3 miles away from Vintage.
