Let me answer this question .... Knotts is to show off cars for the purpose of selling more like them. In other words, it is primarily commercial. A very good show and nice cars but commercial and two days spent standing on pavement in hot sun (or driving rain).

Morro Bay is a three day weekend of 356 only enthusiasts and their spouses having fun. Parade, backcountry winery tours, meals, shopping, sightseeing, camaraderie. Just like an annual Family Reunion. No prizes, no competition!

The fact that it is the same weekend is only a matter of coincidence and is not meant to slight Knotts in any way.

Come spend the weekend with us at Morro Bay. You will not be disappointed.

Happy Trails,
Dusty

It's a good show Joel. Pretty heavy emphasis on the show part, but good in that most of the manufacturers are there. Having it straight across from Knotts Berry farm (with a nice tunnel access - no street crossings) makes it really fun to take a family to this event. If you want to check out cars all day and they want to go to the amusement park - everyone's happy and in walking distance of each other.

The Morro Bay even (or Paso before that) is fun, friendly, easy going with an emphasis on driving and comraderie.

Most of the fun in ownership of these little tubs is actually driving them. So while some of you may chose to sit around all day looking at your car, the rest of us will be driving ours through different types of roads with our comrades in arms..and that's just on Friday... Saturday there's a parade, Kite festival and lot's of drinking and eating....Yea, some of you aren't really cut out for all that fun...
Let's not forget it was Knotts 2004 and "Replica Rendezvous!" that got many of us together for the first time.
The fact that we quickly realized what a dud weekend, broasting on the tarmac in Buena Park really was, and went on to organize get-togethers that are much more fun, says a lot.
Knotts was then. Morro Bay is now. No comparison.
Dave:

You get weird ones like that.

Chris and I were at the Rolex Race back in January and were wandering around in the garage area the day before the race. Suddenly Chris says: "Hey! Isn't that Chuck Beck over there?"

Turns out it WAS Chuck - he was there to show one of his 904 replicas to one of the drivers on the car we were helping out. We introduced ourselves (from meeting him at Carlisle) and then introduced him to the driver he was looking for.

The car he had there was a 904 replica with a Porsche 993 turbo engine and drivetrain underneath. Now, THAT would be fun to drive!!!!

Joel -

The event at Knott's Berry Farm would be a good place for you to research these cars (Speedster replicas) as well as all the other kits/turnkey stuff available. Its amazing what is being replicated these days and with outstanding quality (subjective of course).

Anyway, you would be doing yourself a favor by going to this local event (easy drive to Buena Park from your neighborhood) as well as some of the SoCal SOC cruises posted under 'Events'.

Good luck with your quest!
