If enough of us right coast guys decided to attend Knotts we could probably make arrangements with John Van Damm to pick up our cars and haul them to the left coast for a discounted "package" rate.

I don't know about you other guys, but I wouldn't want to spend 5 days en route. We could probably arrange for a haul-back, too, at an even better two-way package rate.

Why beat up on yourself and your car for two days of a car show?

We would have to make advance arrangements and prepay so that John could arrange his schedule to best advantage.

Let me know if some of you are interested, and if so, I'll call John with a preliminary feeler...

Vince, I don't think that's an accurate description of John Van Damm and probably not of his employees either. I understand he has hauled brand spanking new Speedsters all over the country and probably without incident.

George, as tempting as your idea is, I have to say that I am planning what I think will be the trip of a lifetime, driving the Subytub about 2175 miles to Knotts. I think that the experience will be worth the saddle sores. Besides, I'll have the distinct pleasure of waxing the tail of the "Red Dirt Bawlbagger #1" all the way back to OKC.

Ive toyed with a similar notion going east. Because I still HAVE to work, and because my wife wants me to spend some of my vacation time with her,(go figure) I have thought about a one way truck ride. I'd love to drive one way, heck if I had the time I'd do both directions but I want a semi leisurly tour type drive. I was looking at the map and figuring on a 5-6 day one way. I am looking forward to meeting you guys from the east.
John H., I've done my share of long distance/high speed driving with both cars and motorcycles over the years and learned one thing - nothing gets you there as quickly and comfortably as a 747.

Also, I've traveled all over the west so it wouldn't be a new experience for me.

Knotts would be 5 days out and 5 days back from where I live; figure an extra $1,400 or so for en route for meals, motels, and gas both ways.

I'd rather spend some extra money and not lose the 10 days (or gather any highway stone chips in the paint...).
George,

Hard to fault your logic, seems like a primo plan to truck those babies out to Knotts but think you would not be eligble for the long ditance trophy, 747's don't count! I have driven all over the west myself and get out the Rand McNally every so often and can always find
highways less traveled to explore. Problem is that the choices are few going East to West. One year I took the old Lincoln Highway , US 30, from Chicago to Utah and it was a lot more entertaining than I-80. Actually the hours driven were probably about the same because Rt 30 in Western Iowa and Nebraska, Wyoming, were truck and traffic free.

In any case, hope you can find some like minded Easterners to share the truck, talk about making a grand entrance to Knotts. That would be "Far Out" as John Denver used to say!
