For the record, Theron, the air-cooled exodus last year was noted. I agree with you, I doubt they changed their date because of us, but regardless of the reasons, the date does not conflict.

I didn't know about the end-of-April date until I was visiting with Thunder Ranch a couple of weeks ago. Tom and Jeannie wanted to know if we were going to Knotts as there were "not alot of cars (spyders/speedsters) last year." I told them why so many of us made alternate plans...

You see, Tom and Steve need to sit down and hash a few things out about the 904. Well, one conversation (tom, jeannie and I) wound to another and the next thing I know the two of them talked me into driving the spyder down for Knotts. That way Steve and Tom can have their mano-a-mano about our next fiberglass expenditure.

You know, I can still picture myself standing there talking to them and nodding my head in agreement--sure Tom and Jeannie, I'll bring the spyder down. What the hell was I thinking? I must REALLY like those two...

I was at the Saturday morning Cars & Coffee Meet thats close to my home and an old-timer gave me a very nice compliment on my Speedy. I asked which car he brought that day and he showed me his real-deal 904 Carrera GTS. It was in un-restored condition and it looks pretty rough on closer inspection, but at least he drives it to all the local shows. A super nice guy, he invited me to the Newport Beach Concourse. Great turnout of museum quality cars.

Thought you might like the pics of his 904 on these links just to get you more psyched about your 904 project!

The 904 owner is the older guy in the orange shirt in this pic/link.

Mickey - there will NEVER be a silver car in this house. I'm dead set against it. My mother in law with whom I have a somewhat challenging relationship will only buy silver cars. Never owned any other color. Because of that I'll never let a silver one live here.

Perfectly OK for you guys to have silver cars, frankly I find your cars lovely. But that color is not for me. The 904 will be a most wicked shade of black.

The 1953 ferrari is an elegant old beast. Love the treatment at the rear for the fuel filler.

Here's an idea to consider for your 2 trips to California in April.

You & Steve drive the Spyder to Paso Robles. After the Paso show (and to save wear & tear on the car and yourselves) you & Steve fly home from Paso and I'll drive your Spyder to my home in Irvine/Newport Beach (SoCal). I'll put the Spyder in my garage till the following weekend (Knott's show) when you & Steve fly back down to John Wayne/Orange County airport (5 minutes from my house) where I'll pick you guys up and deliver the Spyder to you (waxed/polished/tank of gas). Knott's is a 20-minute drive from the airport. You and Steve can attend the Knott's show then drive the Spyder home afterwards and at your leisure.

...just a thought (crazy as it is!).
You're actually closer to fact than you think Jim. I'll drive the spyder to Paso and it appears Steve will drive the mazda6 after work friday night. Knowing him he'll set the cruise for 100 and let 'er rip...

After Paso, he heads north and I head south. I haven't picked my hangout spot in the LA area just yet. I'm hoping to score some work down there and that will determine where I stay. If I don't score some work down there I'll find an "affordable" establishment.

Regardless of that, I'll head to Buena Park/Knotts on Thursday. Steve will fly in Thursday night or Friday morning. He'll fly home Sunday and I'll begin driving home on Sunday.

This is a little complicated but with Steve finishing up a large street-lighting project in White City, OR., he can't easily bail. One weekend yes, two weekends, no. Fuel will probably be $3.00 plus a gallon (and more for premium). At a certain point, he can actually fly to LA cheaper than he can drive, depending on when I buy the ticket.

...if we had room at our tiny place (small by design to prevent the kids from moving back home) we'd love to have you & Steve stay at our place. Either way, Angela, we're (SOC collectively) looking forward to seeing you, Steve and your show-stopper Spyder at Paso.

And since Knott's is on the following weekend and so close to home, I'll pobably see you there as well. Maybe I can talk you guys into going to the Cars & Coffee show Saturday morning before going to Knott's (still only a quick drive to Knott's).
