I think we need to make sure the Ballots are available next time to the speedsters owners and participants who go through are area. Assuming everyone wants to go to knotts next year? There was definitely some voting irregularities? Maybe we just didn't empasize to people to vote for the speedsters??

Also, how many of us even bothered voting in the main vote? I will admit that I didn't? I should have, but I was just really busy all day doing other things.
I think the winners at AHA are determined by the people who vote. This is anyone who comes through the gate and gets a ballot and fills it out.

I personally a little dissapointed that a couple of speedsterowners.com cars weren't in the general awards. Yours being one of them, that I thought should have received something more. But in reality, our group knows more and winning within our group actually says more. I just think its a little weird that no speedster one in any class other then the speedster class?

They say it is all in the judgeing from the public ballots, I'm wondering if there isn't a flaw in that system?
Only those with cars actually registered at the AHA Knotts Show received ballots to vote for the trophy categories. That's why the 356s & 550s are annual also-rans in the awards department. The Cobra contigents openly "trade votes" and the Speedster & Spyder guys haven't mastered that political act...yet.
There was one award (announced on Saturday) that was voted on by the general public, sort of a "People's Choice Award."
What John said about "trading votes" and "political acts" leaves a sour taste in my mouth. I tend to avoid shows where there is judging since some people can be really miffed if their pride and joy gets overlooked. I attended a club outing last Fall which turned out to be a judged event and won a best of show. My senses told me that some of the others present who found out about it were not pleased at all and resented the awarding of my plaque.

As far as Cobra owners go, I met some really nice people at Knotts, including people who own that type of car. As a group, however, they are big and powerful, this evidenced in part by the comments of the Master of Ceremonies and the awards given out at Mrs. Knotts Chicken Dinner. Open and welcoming would not describe the message I was receiving at that event. One remark the MC made was downright rude and thoughtless. I hope the owner of the car he was describing was not present.

Thanks for explaining that John......What we should have done was had our own vote for speedsters and spyder in each of the Knotts categories, and then whatever car won in that category within our group we would funnel all of our votes to that car on the official ballots for that category. This is just normal fun in my opinion and could be a "team owners.com" building event.

I don't mind if people manipulate the system, I just feel bad if that we aren't doing the same. When in Rome do as the Romans do??

A couple of those classes should have gone to speedsters. Especially the classes that were like "best under 20k". I think just because we have a lot to choose from ends up splitting the votes out too much.

If any of this makes sense, please tell me, and if it doesn't I'm sorry I'm not sharpest tool in the shed?

I never did see a peoples choice ballot? And I'm people, I think?
To avoid all of this, I say we separate ourselves from the AHA event
and have our own somewhere else...That parking lot leaves a lot to be desired....We need a park setting, perhaps some grass....
I can think of a lot better places than Knotts...
I'm not into the trophy thing, but we could have our own trophies
and let everyone vote etc.....
Vegas was mentioned, Santa Barbara has some nice areas, wine country,
Knotts sucks in comparison....
Two good thoughts here (I mean at least two that I concur with) Jim's & Vince's. Getting to Knotts is most of the fun. Running with the group is the other fun component.

Long drives have been known to take their toll on various cars so location, location, location again comes to mind. How do we 'center' ourselves (breathe deep Vince) such that we can get optimum participation?

Would it make any sense, oh boy, I don't believe I'm going to say this, to gather data (not to be confused with a poll) about miles traveled by all who came to Knott's this year, count drivers (no trailer queens, Bruce) and divide the info to see what the average miles traveled was. Then, nah, this isn't playing out right. I was going to suggest a concentric radius with the center based on most members point of origin... This is becoming a left-brain exercise, Bill, help!

Anyway, aside form being lost, if I were planning an event, the trophy classes and criteria would take on a whole new look, offend everyone and hopefully, be a lot more entertaining.

...and I'd still opt for some form of video-conferrencing at some point such that we could get a close-up look at Simon and his wicked machine!

Jim, J2B thanks you for your comment. In my heart of hearts, whatever that is, I think that the award I won this year, in part or in whole, is a recognition that my brothers and sisters on this site valued the fact that I took a step and made the long drive. Thank you, folks, whatever your motivation may have been. I love you guys, no fooling.

Paul,

You are getting sleepy, sleepy. A voice says "Come to Carlisle, countryside setting, no judging, only awards for distance, weekend long activities, cruises, dinners, many things to do and see. lots of Speedsters. You find yourself in the garage tuning your car, adjusting teh valves and gassing up thinking - Carlisle, Carlisle, that's where I need to be. It's far but Johnny2bolts can do it and so can I". When I stop typing this message you wake up, get in your car and start driving east.

Sorry, couldn't resist but the west coast guys are WELCOME! I'll provide the doughnuts!

There is always Lake Tahoe, or thunderhils raceway. Even Las Vegas. then again Jerome Aizona , it is a historic town with hotels, b&b's high desert. twisty roads to Prescot, A short drive to Sedona, a lot of good sceanery. You could have it any where there could be the brotherhood of speedsters I witnessed at Knotts. Why not start a poll of our members and I understand that Theron told me it is a conciderable number, and logisticly choose a new site for the west coast meet. I personally like to drive to these get togeathers and see the people that post on this site, We have a comon bond with are individual little cars and getting together is fun. Hell we could always have it Dales house in Dixon . That barbque was fun. Dales wife would most probably nix that idea, right Dale? I just thought it was me that Jim's new ride didn't receave something, and hoss you got the long distance trouphy in my book. Hey Bruce if its held in Grants Pass like the First annual South Oregon tour, Thats a beautiful area, and a nice park just accross the Klamith . I would drive any where just to enjoy looking at what other speedster owners have done to their rides. I like to kid Eddie about wearing the paint off his ride. Wax on Wax off dude.
Thanks guys, I was wondering how the judging worked at Knott's, makes sense know. I wish I would have known ahead of time. I made a big effort to get my speedster done for Knott's and drove my speedster in the rain to get there Sunday which was my first rule not to break. We were going to go to Carlise with the car but decided not to after Knott's, the drive home Sunday was the best part. The coarse at Long Beach was partly intact for some pictures. It was a nice day.

Michael, will you be joining us for the hotel Del run on the 14th
(2 weeks away)......

There are so many areas throughout California that would be perfect for our meet, we could also change it every year....
Got married in Sedona, Arizona. That place is Mystical, if you've
never been there its a must see.....Many Kodak moments to be sure..
I don't know what location I would vote for but someone should start making a list....
Rubies to be exact.....Also this Friday, I understand that there will be many cars cruising to Rickey and Ronnies in torrance
corner of Sepulveda and Normandie.....That may be Harbor City...
I plan on doing that, they get more than a few hundred cars about once a month...if you are interested let me know, we can hook-up.....I have the speedster in a mini-show at the Hermosa pier on Saturday if the rain cooperates. about 50 cars.....I keep my speedster in a friends garage, will be picking it up thursday or friday afternoon for the weekends activities....
Ok, here it is J2B, aka, Der Hossinator!

Oops! Wardrobe Malfunction. I'll get a good pic up asap. To echo J2B's thoughts... I consider the voting as a validation of making the Trip along with many others. There were so many beautiful Speedys there, and so I appreciate your thoughtful votes. That was the coolest part, seeing so many very cool Speedsters/Cab/Spyders/Roadtsers... that and seeing so many of you again.

Thanks to MM.
