Hi Guys and Gals,

The left coast 2004 Speedster and Spyder show is in the planning stage
and seems to be coming along nicely. It will be at the same time and place as the famous Knotts Berry Farm replica/kit car show. Things are still very preliminary but we'll be feeding you with periodic updates. John Leader has come up with an outstanding logo for us. We hope to come up with a program that will leave you planning a return the following year. We aim the theme will be to have fun.

Stay tuned, Bruce Williams and John Leader

While it's too early to announce details, it's not too soon for ALL OF US to make plans to attend. Mark your calendar for April 24 & 25, 2004. The location is Knotts Berry Farm in Anaheim, CA. We're going to try to gather as many Speedsters and Spyders as we possibly can. Write it down and please join us. It will be a whole lot of fun! More details in the coming weeks.
Jim,

Rumors are there might be a trophy for longest distance driven for a Speedster. No trailer queens allowed for entry in the long drive contest. We'll check for bug splatter!

Theron: John Leader has been talking to John Steele about the event and Steele indicated that the meet organizers are not ready to accept
entries or issue info yet, got a feeling after the first of the year.
That should allow us plenty of time to get the details out to everyone.
Send me or John Leader what your ideas are on a hospitality booth/tent off line. John and I would like to see that happen too.

Bruce

Guys.

This is something I am looking forward to! And yes, I plan on driving in. Instead of riding a hog to The Wall, I am driving my Speedy to the Pacific Blue! I plan on a 65-70 mph easy cruise all the way out with an overnight in Flagstaff, and also a 5 minute stop at Clines Corner in NM to get a genuine arrowhead;-)

It's such a highlight on the calendar I am already thinking in terms of prepping the car in all ways possible. I've made a list of things to check and or replace, including a new set of Dunlops. I also hope to get some of the guys I see on our new registry neighbor locator to join in. Like CMC-C In Arlington! And a guy in Tulsa, a few in Kansas, and one in MO. Hopfully we can pick up anyone from CO. NM. AZ, on the way.

Anyway, I WILL BE THERE.... like Tom Joad out of the dust bowl in the 30s.

Jim
Jim,

Looking forward to meeting you and your car! I promise no jokes about Oakies and the Mother Road. Looks like you might be the leader in the Longest distance drive. I'm sure you will beat my 700 miles! Maybe some Canadian guys will give you some competition. They will have to bring their own Molson cause I doubt if they sell any in SoCal.

Bruce
Well for you lefty coasters and the Canadian contingent I'll haul out a case of something real special: Shiner's Bock, and mabe some of their amber ale. You'll be singing "The Eyes Of Texas" after one sip... Moosehead is good, and I do like Molsen better than 99% of what's out there... but Shiner is just about IT for me. Brewed by an 80+ yo german brewmeister at the Spoetzel Brewery in little old Shiner, Texas.

Jim,

Nothing in concrete yet but John and I are kind of pointing to a Saturday night shindig with all the beverages of choice being available, food too. We are planning on having it either at the meet hotel or in close proximity. And there is nothing to say we can't have something on Friday night also. You know everyone thinks these Porsche guys are ready to party hearty so guess we have a reputation to uphold! More to follow as details are firmed up. Sure sounds like everyone is getting reved up about this, I know I am.

Bruce
Patric,

That's a great idea. We'll use your Airstream as the Friday night party central. That's a great looking combo you have there. How does it handle the trailer? Hope you don't have to screw those big rear view mirrors into the side of the tub!

Actually, John Leader and myself will be designating a meet hotel for us Speedster and Spyder guys and gals. I will be flying down there in late January for that very purpose. We will also look for the Saturday night food and beverage gathering spot. These all will hopefully be close to the Knotts facility. I do know that the Knotts meet people do not have a specific hotel designated but are going to publish a list of hotels and eateries in their brochure due out after the holidays. John and I will attempt to get a favorable room rate for us guys.
We will publish all the info as we get it set in concrete. After the Holidays I will publish a questionaire on this thread to get a ball park on how many of you will be staying at a hotel and for how many nights, This hopefully will give us some leverage with the hotel people. The restuarant info will also be included. I'm sure that will be quite a crowd as there are a lot of SoCal people that may not stay at the hotel but would want to break bread as a group.

Bruce
In January all the information for our booth, hotel, etc will be posted here as well as spyderowners.com. This is going to be a blast, hopefully we will out number the cobra guys for once. I'm also working on a sponsorship plan, perhaps prizes for attending members. It would be nice to have an annual west coast and east coast meet. If you east coast guys need any help spreading the word just let me know. I will contact you when January comes around and make arrangements for the announcements.

Theron,

Thanks for checking up with us. The east coast guys have been working on details and will release info when the folks at Carlisle annnounce their agenda. Much of the legwork for the three days is done by Carlisle as they already provide quite a few activities Friday through Sunday: replica-related seminars, numerous vendors and manufacturers, a country-side evening cruise, large swap meet, give-away car, SCCA track time, seperate show field tent for groups with over 25 registrations, etc. They also have something called the "Steel Yard", this is a car-sized see-saw that people drive onto and try to balance their car by quickly moving back-and-forth....very entertaining, especially when some of the exotics get involved.

Please consider us as you are working through sponsorships and we'll get back to you with some thoughts, thanks for the offer. Alan Merklin is working on rooms at a central hotel, co-hosting with an east coast replica club that has several Speedster owner members and a co-hosted Saturday night dinner.

A suggestion: Rather than direct interested people to the miscellaneous comments under "Events", can you create two direct links on the Speedsterowners.com main page site that would provide all the details, hype, photos, etc - one for the Carlisle meet and one for the Knotts meet? The links could be similar to the site created for the Speedster 50th Anniversary (www.speedster50thanniversary.com) but much simpler. Perhaps a main page, "Contact us", "News", "Registration Info", "Hotel" and ???. That way we could direct interested people to the Speedsterowners.com main page and they could click on the icon for the respective meet. Maybe the logos could be maps of the US and Canada east and west of the Mississippi. This would save people initially having to dig through all the back-and-forth commentary under "Events" and also get them familiar with going to the Speedsterowners.com site. What do you think?
