The Knott's show is most definitely open to the public. In fact one of the small troublesome things about Knotts is the kids that are on the way through the parking lot, headed into the park, love the cars and sometimes have greasy, sticky fingers. Of course kids like to touch..... The show is in a parking lot normally used for Knott's, patrons. Alot, if not most of the spectators are simply walking through the lot on the way to the park. The kids aren't really that bad, and it is fun to let them sit in your car and see them smile. Of course sometimes their mommies like to sit in your car too. See me smile.....
OK. I confess. I love to let the kids sit in my car. Not all of them but if they smile and seem well behaved, I ask if they want to get in. I have even sent pictures to their parents following the show. I do NOT have a record!! The smiles on their faces are worth it. Smiles on Mom's faces ....Priceless!
I went to a small car show in Rhode Island last Summer over near the Navy Undersea College, where a small boy, maybe 6 or seven, had been looking at and wandering around my car for a few minutes, always keeping his distance and not touching, but transfixed by it.

When I walked over closer he walks up and asks me something in German, which I know all of three words in. He's pointing at my car, smiling and saying even more in German and we're getting no where. Then he runs away and comes back with his mom, who tells me his Grandfather in Germany had a car like mine, but her son says mine is nicer....he's also asking if he can sit in it for a picture?

The little boy was so good and so polite, I took several shots of him sitting in the drivers seat with THE most enormous grin. He said he wanted it for his grandfather - what a neat little kid!
I have to say, I was taught manners as a child and I appreciate others who teach manners. I would let good mannered children sit in my car anyday.

Gordon, I was recently in Europe and I noticed how polite the children in Austria and Hungary were. Completely the opposite of most American kids. It may have something to do with the old "When I was your age..." Our parents can only say things like, "When I was your age we worked hard". There parents can say, "When I was your age, we had bombs dropped on us".

All this talk about spectators at car shows bring back lots of good memories and one bad one. The good ones raise a smile but the one bad one cost me some money. I had my Avanti on display when this guy and his about 12 year old son come waltzing up. The father engages me in conversation while the son is busy leaning in the window looking at the interior. Only upon them leaving did I notice the big gouge in the door from the kids flashy belt buckle, grrrr!

Guess the Speedster is low enough that they don't lean on the door to look at the interior, least I hope so. Usually a word of caution works for most of the spectators and the kids. If you quietly mention to the father about touching the car they usually relay that to the kids with a stern look. Kind of funny actually.

After reading all the meesages below it concerned me wether or not I wanted to leave the car alone and go into the park or not. I hope the the vehicles are in a secure parking lot at night or will there be people around them all night? Does anyone know.
Also my 7 year old son has been goingot shows since he could walk. I have taught him to respect the cars and people so when these kids are doing all the crazy greasy finger stuff , the parents should be correcting them.
God help us.
Lance,

As a group we tend to hyperventilate when we see people getting too close to our cars. It is not as grim as some, including myself, depict. Think it is because we are Speedster freaks.

The car can be left overnight on the show field. They will have security there both Friday night and Saturday night. I believe a lot of the cars will spend the night there so yours will be in good company. Another option is to park it at the Marriott Courtyard parking lot. There will be quite a number of us staying there with our cars, one more is better. The Courtyard is 1/2 mile from Knotts on Beach Ave. It sounds as if you have another car to follow you. Hope this helps.
