I am trying to get some idea as to how this all works. I am planning to attend, and drive my car up from Tucson. Can you give me a little insight? I have walked around a number of car shows but I have never been part of one.

I figured you drive your car to the event and leave it there all day? If need be can you leave or go for rides? What if you can only be there on Saturday, and need to head home on Sunday? I'd like to show up and be cool like I know what I'm doing.

Thanks-
Mary

You have a very cool car, Just show up, get in line and you will be directed to the speedster section, park as if you do this all the time, (you will again be directed)...get out of the car, wipe it down, for it will be at least a little dirty from the trip, and then just hang out with the rest of us.....Its actually quite easy....
If you can only stay one day, thats fine, if you show up on Sunday and need to leave early thats fine too.
Bring a chair if you can....

Only you trophy hounds have to worry about staying in one place. All the rest of us peons that don't put trophies high up on the car show
agenda can wander all over the place. One nice thing about the show is that there is plenty of room for each car, two parking spots if I remember! Maybe this year Mike will have a category for the fewest accesories on a Speedy, I might be in the running for that one!

Bruce
Let me rephrase, for some of you, the organizers do not like ANY car driving around, no in and out of the parking lot during the show. That way the spectators are not run over in that mad dash to McDonald's for lunch. The Knott's dogs, although no where near as tastee as DODGER DOGS, are close in cost!
Dale,

Clarify Knotts dogs please. You mean like a Jodi clone or a corn dog on a stick! Never found the hot doggies last year, think I had an ice cream cone from a vendor and some cookies that Theron bagged up for us.

Jim, I'll wander over to Albertsons and get another Shiners six if I can, that then becomes the raffle entry, that is if Mike is going to do a raffle this year? Hello Mike, you out there?

Bruce
...and when you drive in, you get a packet with your window sign to fill out, probably some freebies, a pitch to join the Kit Car club, then you go to your assigned(?) parking area. It truly is a no-brainer, and very few un-cool things can occur, 'cept for maybe running over some of JimBob's traveling detail shop equipment, and watch out for Vince, his shirts usually are enough to blind normal people (when he is wearing one) and he sets up his chair and umbrella pretty much wherever he pleases...
Bruce, I think driving there is the ultimate trophy, you dog! The other trophy? Sharing those fine Shiners with everyone. I think Vince is right, we should put a 6 into the drawing! Thanks again Bruce.. very cool of you, even if you live in the Red/Blue part of a Blue State. Me? I live in the Red part of a Red State and I am Blue about it!

Dale, that park and drive thing has led to this! Trolled me in as I was trolling the lot. The coolest drive will be the morning run to Laguna!

Jim

I think I have things figured out. You park your car. Walk around and look at everyone elses car. Talk about your car and everyone elses car. Sit in front of your own car in a folding chair. Talk about drinking beer. Maybe actually drink beer. Eat junk food. Maybe win a prize.

I can do this.

Thanks- Mary
Mary, I think driving your Speedy to LA is very cool and very much in the tradition.

My travel suggestion? Having a friend to check The Weather Channel for you is very helpful and also someone to give waypoint calls to. As you well know there are Cell Phone Blank spots and so the checks are a good way to have a little security. Chris Nichols did that for me last year and I think it was a great thing. Make sure and give your cell phone to a couple of folks in LA. As you found out through Vince, you can count on your Speedster community.

The car show stuff is a piece of cake and it's great to meet everyone.

That's it. Jim
That's right Gordon. My only problem is that there won't be room to bring what I think would be enough. I'm thinking four sixers, and will be looking for people who know and appreciate the difference between ale and lager and prefer ale, as I do. That aside, I guess other than designated "save one fors" it will be first come, first served. I was thinking of buying a bag of ice on the morning of the last day's drive so I can arrive with cold ones.
hh
John,

Yeah, put the ice in your Hoss hat along with the ale and if you break down somewhere you can get the trail dust out until someone comes riding to your rescue, just kidding, sure you will make it just fine and arrive with the A/C on super cold. If I'm not mistaken, the rooms as the Marriott all have little refrigerators in them. Rick Davis last year filled his sink with ice from the machine and we had icy Molson in about 10 minutes. Now with Coors buying Molson the question remains, is Rick going to bring Coors or Molson? I'd bet on the M brew!

There will be a few of us Tursday afternoon arrivals so probably we can count on Dale, Jim Bob, Henry, Paul, maybe Eddie, myself, Rick and Brenda, Hoss, Steve and Angela and whomever. Should make for a nice dinner group with the tallest tales flying.

Bruce, The Eagle Point guy
Hoss,

But of Course! and that ain't grey Poupoun! What ever, it sure tasted good to me as we had endured my engine blowing, a trip to JPS to leave it, a top down trip thru LA rush hour inhaling that greenish grey haze with two cases of Molson my lap. Glad Rick was driving cause I had no idea where we were going! We made it to the Marriott and those icy brews. Thru it all I kept telling myself I was having fun, and I really was!
