Know a Good VW Mechanic on Long Island, NY?

Hello all,

Now that I know what may be the problem with my 1776 VS. I need to locate a QUALITY VW machanic to help me do the job.
Does anyone know someone on Long Island, New York who can help me?

Well,

I bought my old VS back from a guy I sold it to earlier (2 years prior) and discovered that one of the Solex carbs were bad. So I had a local mechanic replace it with a new one I got from Kirk at VS. and give it a complete tune up. Once I finally took posession of the car (had it shipped from Ohio to NY) it runs terribly. i have to really mush down on the gas to get the car moving with out "bogging" or back firing. It holds an idle and does not stall. It used to run wonderfully and quick, now it feels like it can't get out of it's own way. I would like to find a VW mechanic on LI, NY that knows what they are doing.

This is a suggestion; why didn't you get a new carb set instead of just the one? Seems to me it would've been better.

There are a ton of guys on that forum that live on the island and the NJ/NY/CT area. They can hook you up with the best, and they're a pretty great bunch of guys to boot.

Check the North East Air Cooled site. They came up with a life-long mechanic in Massapequa (sp) who is excellent with VW's AND Porsches. He's evidently a specialist in dual carburetors as well. Ought to be perfect for you!
