Spent a nice weekend in deadwood south dakota at a great rod run. over 600 entries. Registered the speedster for the show & shine on main street.(as a custom / replica) Also in the area this weekend was a regional porsche club meet. Met three couples that own authentic speedsters. Two are 55's and a 57. Also a local elderly couple that have a 65 coupe.
The porsche owners in this part of the country must be a different breed from the west coast folk that vince talks about. Not one of them had any issues with a replica speedster.
Every last one of them seem to think the replica is a great way to enjoy a classic auto design without the headaches. And thay all thought vintage did a great job replicating the speedster. In fact one couple that owns a 85 911 sc said they will be shopping for one.
I was not expecting very much interest in my speedster by the hot rod fans. I was wrong. Lots of good comments, questions, and picture taking. Only one couple walked up looked in and said vw and walked away with a it's a fake kind of look.
