Just wanted to give a shout-out for Greg Leach at Vintage Motors

In just over two years I've logged 28K miles on my VS. Since I hadn't done any maintenance on my car in 18K miles I thought I would take it to Vintage Motors for a tune-up & service. Before you all go crazy with the lectures and bad ju-ju about not servicing for so long, I'm totally aware of all that. The car ran fine but I thought I should just have it done before my run to northern California for the Tour D'Hoe (about 1,300 miles round trip).

Anyway, Greg is great with detail and tweaked my car (relocated & installed electric fuel pump, replaced faulty dizzy) with his tune-up (valve adjust, proper timing, sync carbs, fan belt, oil, etc.) WOW! I don't believe this car has EVER run as well as it does NOW. Thanks Greg!

Jim, it's amazing what a good carb tune and timing will do to these cars.  Several weeks ago I took a friend in my Speedster to pick up his 427 El Camino that was being fine tuned by a hot rod garage.  The owner had an engine analysis computer the size of my  car.  He liked the Speedster and I told him it had a hesitation and occasional backfire when re-accelerating.  He offered to fix the problem as long as I didn't tell anybody I saw him work on a VW engine, lol.  He spent about 30 minutes on it, and told me to take it for a spin.  I couldn't believe the difference.  Since then it runs significantly cooler, goes like stink, and has gone from 17mpg to 23mpg.  I wonder how many of our cars are operating anywhere near their potential.

P.S.  I'm gonna be at the Tustin/Enderle Plaza Cars and Coffee in the morning around 7:00 with a box of donuts if you or any of the OCer's want to help me eat them.  Mostly older P-cars show up with an occasional Zwart/ Foose/ Walker appearance.  It has gotten a little busier since Aliso Viejo folded.

Jim- now I'm jealous the improvements Greg had done. I'll need to do the same sometime soon, since I do all the work myself- for financial reasons.

Tom- I was thinking of asking if anyone would be interested in meeting at the Tustin Enderle C&C; I like your idea better donuts. Unfortunately, I voluntary at the Orange food bank the 1st & 2nd Saturday of the month and will miss your invite. I still would like to have several replic Speedsters there at one time just for a change.
