Vince -

How was your stint of judging cars at the La Jolla Classic? Could the weather BE any nicer? Hope you and Terry had a great time.

Here's a link to pictures of that event...

WARNING!!! Be advised that the following pictures depict 80 degree weather under clear blue skies along SoCal's Pacific Coast. DO NOT VIEW if you are susceptable to fits of snow-bound/ice-storm/grey-sky/sub-40-degree/car-up-on-jacks-in-the-garage cabin fever!

The La Jolla show was a Suck-cess....
you can see by the pic's that it was a great day, big waves and beautiful cars (and women)....I judged the 50's American, best car in my class was the 58 Impala 96 points....got dinged for incorrect radio (updated to CD) and another thing I can't remember....
Oh, I also judged the race cars, of which there was a 904 porsche,
which won it's class, best part is they have to light them up for inspection........
Saw David K while I was there but didn't have time to talk much since I was working the field....
some concours have a class for special interest which would include replica's, but this show said no. special interest was reserved for modified originals....Replica's seem to piss off the concours crowd.
That 904 was a twin cam of course. I gave the owner Jake Raby's website and a few others. Owner confirmed that old rumor about it taking 1 1/2 days to do a proper valve job!

In the background you can see a red Convertible D and a black C Coupe. They were flanking a gullwing Mercedes.

Also notice the venue, large grass lawn backing up to a 50 foot cliff overlooking the blue Pacific. There were about half a dozen body boarders riding about 8 foot waves out there. And a few (very few) swimmers in the cove, sans wetsuit, just swinmming. Just thought I'd mention that it was T-shirt weather to anyone in Cleveland who may care?

What pictures do NOT capture is our very own Vince, in white shirt, tie, and blue blazer! Priceless!

Odw - that blue fastback is a Lamborghini Muira SV circa 1970. It has a mid-engine transverse V-12 of many valves and cam, producing about 400 - 450 Hp.
The black 50 Caddy owner was an Italian from New York and actually took me aside and tried to talk me into giving him a break on the points off....he wanted a trophy to show his friends..(His Caddy was the worse in the class)
Imagine that, just because I am also Italian from New York....
I don't like Italians any more than any other group. I hate everyone equally....
Gotta post this somewhere, so here ya go:
One of the concours cars was a '64 Trabant (probably NOT a milion dollar car). Weight to power ratio is 50 pounds / Hp. But it wasn't the go power that got my attention - it was the stop power!

Per the owners literature:

"Drum brakes (13 inch wheels) are all this car needs to have one of the most efficient braking systems of any car."

"The car is so light that it needs no assistance from a servo, to have one of the best braking systems of any car."

Perhaps the car's claimed top speed of 65 MPH (downhill in front of a tornado?) had some influence?
