Alan, I thought the roof was way cool as well... he also went from teardrops to beehives a very nice touch and finally, don't you think that the bumpers and the front signal lights really were over done on that model IMHO and trimming them down sure looks more appropriate to me    I think Lane might get some ideas from this build. Bob Carley's IM-6 does have the front bumper, but it has cut-outs in the bumper for the dual front coolers.  The same concept could be used for water radiators, I'm sure, and I like this look better than a scoop hanging down under the front of the body.

I'm actually partial to bumpers on outlaws, if they're tastefully done (says the guy who's running Nerf bars).  The plain, 356-style bumper, like on Bob's car, seems to fit the "Outlaw" concept well, but I wonder if other simple bumpers might be tried to see what visual effect they have?  Photoshop is a wonderful thing.......

Roof, nuthin'-- The whole thing: stance, silhouette, roofline, pretty much everything bears a really strong family resemblance to the Merc. It's not a bad thing, it's just kind've unnerving.

It's like the black car's kid brother. I'd sorta' expect Billy Gibbons to step out of it if it pulled up to a Save-a-Lot.

I kept hearing about the Fuoss 356, and I guess I expected it to look like this one rather than the car with the oval rear window. This one's really not my thing. I know I need to say something like, "if he's having fun that's great" or the like. But the way I really feel is: if he wanted a lead-sled, perhaps he should've bought a '50s Mercury and left this one for the Emorys to have at it.

Ahh!...that 49/50 Merc is what I drove through highschool (no chopped roof though) Torched front coils / lowering blocks / '54 Olds grill / indecent Glasspac exhaust / spun aluminum Moon hubcaps and skirts. Remembering it makes my heart beat faster!

When I was a kid I'd ride my bike to George and Sam Barris's shop in Lynwood CA and watch them magically 'chop' those babies. Couldn't ogle  enough of that environment so on Saturday nights I'd peddle to the Clock Drive-In on Atlantic Avenue, Southgate, and visually feast on the customs and rods cruising in and out of their parking lot...No frigg'n wonder I'm as 'sick' as I am!!!

BTW, has anyone else noticed the headlight height on the chopped red A coupe? They're in a higher fender position like the South African speedsters that both our friends Marty and Gary re-glassed to Stuttgart height.

And...The skirts on the stretched limo that Bill posted...Is there an 'after market' source for those?

Carl:  If you liked the look of a slammed '49 Merc, how about a chopped and slammed Hudson Commodore?

I love this look, but almost expect those fuzzy pom-poms hung along the headliner.....  "Miss Daisey" would not have approved, I'm sure.

Mate this look with that living-room-couch front seat and it becomes a really cool long-range cruiser.

How the hell did we make this much of a detour on the thread??

Back to Lane's Outlaw coupe - LANE!   What'cha-gonna-do for interior bits?

And how about a pair of Semaphore turn signals??  Wicked cool, that.

Right now the interior is (probably) oxblood leather with oatmeal carpet.  Some matching coco mats would be nice.  It will have a GT-style roll-bar and Speedster seats.  I need to speak to Carey about how shoulder harnesses will be mounted.  One option would be a removable crossbar (removable because it would otherwise block engine access) that would facilitate a 4-point harness.  I believe he plans for a standard 3-point harness which will be fine if the harness mount is up on the B-pillar.  I will have Mike Lempert make me a wheel - we have already discussed configuration - that will fit a Nardi hub.  Shifter, pedals, and gauges are up to Carey at this point, but I'd love a non-Beetle pedal cluster as I really don't like the accelerator so far forward of the brake pedal.  Other interior details are TBD as the standard specs of the coupe are not yet fully firmed up.

Gordon:  That was my idea to add the two front grill openings.  I just wanted something different on the front.  Henry already does cut-outs of the body behind the bumper to let the air flow to the coolers.  As for the bumpers, they are 'Davis style' that Henry does - different than the standard 356 bumpers.

Lane:  You are getting no shortage of 'advice' on your build, and it's great to see the interest developing!

My only advice is - choose wisely...
