Forget all those foo foo steering wheels!
THIS is what a MAN's car has for a steering wheel...
That's it!!!
You will be working on the chain gang
I really miss suicide knobs before power steering, especially the ones with hot chicks in bathing suits,WOOOHOO
MUSBJIM:
Elegant and refined wheel!
The chain steering wheel has been fine through the decades, but then there is that mess with the lube all over the place ...
The Momo wheel is also available in mahogany, but the leather would probably work better on an outlaw:
I think my current favorite off-the-shelf wheel is the Nardi Anni 50:
Here's another suggestion. Small, easy to "handle" and is lockable ! Comes in polished brass, antique bronze and chrome. Leg and knee room are the best in the industry !
Bruce
And not to mention readily available at Lowe's in a variety of shapes and finishes.

I've always thought the shifter really made it work.
ALB posted:@MusbJim wrote- "THIS is what a MAN's car has for a steering wheel... "
And the shifter too- you know, I've always wondered what something like that feels like to drive...
Al, That chain-link shifter is OK, but a real lady's man has this shifter to impress the babes...
...plus a Gold Star on your 'Man Card' if you use only your cheek and shoulder to shift it! @ALB
More pictures from the lovely and talented Mr. Hines. He tells me it should be in paint soon.
Somehow they were able to salvage the headlight buckets from my Speedster, despite the front end damage, and incorporate them here.
The gas cap opening incorporates a spill tray.
New engine lid (really a trunk in this car) hinges from the laser cutter, freshly assembled.
Sweet! I love the idea of having some continuity from your speedster incorporated here, that's cool.
Looking good, Lane! Those hinges could use a few holes, though...
Is the guy sitting in the back seat area going to be your "motor"??
I remember that I hand routed those headlight openings way back in 2006!
Like Mike, I think it's really cool to incorporate some parts from the Speedster.
The "hand-made" tradition continues!
Agreed with others Lane, I didn't know they were using parts from your old car. Do you have an idea of how much they are actually using of it?
@Chris MacDonald the headlight buckets are the only piece. It would have been slightly easier to use new buckets, but the old ones were salvageable and I just thought it was cool to incorporate one piece of the old build that started it all for Lane.
That is really neat. If in the same situation (fingers crossed I'm not) but I would probably want to do the same thing, as much as possible; where possible.
The rest of the Speedster's front was badly damaged, and from the windshield back it's now Pete's car. Still, I like having the link to the Speedster. I suppose I could try and straighten the Speedster's steering wheel, refinish it, and reuse it, but I think I want something new.
Is Mike Lempert making you a wheel still, Lane?
If so, have you decided on the wood to be used?
For you "Newbies" in here, Lane's car being built at the Carlisle show, 2006. AFAIK, this was the only car ever built at the Carlisle Kit Car Show to this level. 14 "builders" from the SOC, 16 hours, lotsa swears, one happy customer:
Before:
During:
After:
The awesome build team (a few more guys were elsewhere). Any of you who want to meet Carey from Special Editions, he's in there, but help me out, guys, left to right:
Bill Drayer, Greg ?, Gordon Nichols, Rocky Cimbrec, Tom Buchanan? (or is that "Schu"?), Bruce Stumpp, Guy in back ??, Chris Nichols, Carey Hines, Danny Piperato, Karl Macklin, Lane in the driver's seat. I know we're missing 4 or 5 people here.

Maybe he needs to use better wood ... just kidding of course so it springs back .
Mike and I will work on the wheel together. The wheel will be... a surprise - as much to me as you since we’re still working on a design.
A couple more pictures from the erstwhile Mr. Hines (I'm running out of adjectives).
"dash is in and it is in line for final primer. QC will go over the body and then we’ll know if it is just a light scuff before paint or if anything else needs addressed.
Very nice Mr. Anderson we're excited for you !
Love seeing a hand built car come together!
Oooooooo..........
Lane’s gonna have a highly coveted “Glove Box” to hold his Marty- look-alike driving gloves. I’m jealous.
will we be seeing this at Carlisle?

Yes. One way or the other (he said hopefully).
I LIKE !
It's gonna be sharp, Lane!
