Justin, as you know, I'm in on the run to "Justin, Texas" and the track. Seeing your Dad's new Speedster was a treat tonight. You both had big grins. We were impressed with the road trip you guys took from Nebraska today... very cool.

Cal, It will be fun to make a trip south with you and check out your new Speedster. If Dan (Justin's dad) joins in we will have 4 Speedsters out of OKC!

Okay, I just got some details on this event...

Sept. 9, 2006
5:00pm-10:00pm

> Driver must be 21 or older
> No passengers under 6 y.o.
> Both driver and pass have to have seat belts
> No helmet necessary
> Laps will be driven following a pace car (70-85 mph)
> Car clubs will be grouped together for laps if we want
-- otherwise you will be group with others at random

So, if you think you will be attending, let me know so I can coordinate with the Speedway. Thx.
Took Justin's advice about the Doral Tesoro and called their group reservations folks. Their initial offer was to get a room discounted down to $109 per night - if we get more than 10 rooms booked. I asked if they could do better - adding that the event we're coming to attend was for charity, many of us are members of AARP (not sure if I stretched the truth here....), the old cars would look nice in the parking lot, etc. The request is being pushed up the line, so we'll see how they respond.

Still looking for any attendees from Texas?
Thanks Cal. When we get ready to make the reservations let me know. Justin, are we going down Friday eve for the rooms or staying Sat eve after the event? Either way, it's a short drive down to Joe T Garcia's on North Main in the old Ft Worth Stockyards area (straight down I-35 to the 820 Loop and exit North Main for a 3-4 mile drive past Meachum Field (FTW) and Joe Ts is on the left after passing Billy Bobs, good food, fun atmosphere: http://www.joets.com/ for dinner al fresco after we check in.)

Justin, I'll bring a 12x12 pop up canopy for the group if there is a place they will allow us to set it up. I can check for us through the track mgt. (?)

How about it Texicans? Bob Miller, are you in? How about you guys in the Metroplex?

I know of a few 911s going down from our area. One is an early RUF 911 that may be a kick in the pants to take a right seat in during laps.
Haven't heard back from "Larry" (Hotel manager), yet. I'll call again tomorrow. However, if Jim knows of a couple of 911's going down, I may be able to add a couple more, including another RUF 911 out of Oklahoma City. Maybe we'll get 10 rooms together anyway? Will keep you posted.
I think we're set at $109 per night. The only "kicker" is that the room rate will revert to $139/night IF we don't get a total of 10 rooms. Hopefully, we'll reach that number with the SOC guys and the PCA guys that show. Still haven't heard from any of the Texas crowd. I'll have the reservation/group number to pass along next Monday.

Thanks Cal. I'll send my cell # with a PM. That RUF 911 doesn't happen to be owned by a guy named Harlan, does it?

I'll check with Cory over at Planet 911 to see if they haver a group going down (re: the room rate.)

Are you off of Bryant? We are near Santa Fe, north of Danforth.

Okay, finally received hotel information/confirmation:

Call Doral Tesoro - 817-961-0800, ask for "Reservations" and tell them that you are with the "Speedster Owners Club". We have a block of rooms for Saturday, September 9th, set aside (but they will probably honor the rate for as many nights as you want to stay). Rooms should be $109 per night (plus taxes, etc.) as opposed to $139 per night which is their normal rate.

Also connected with the Oklahoma City Porsche Club guys again last night. Seems like there may be an annual get together at the Old Germany restaurant in Choctaw on the 9th - Oktoberfest. This will probably reduce the number going.
Justin, do you have the registration under control or should each of us register on our own? In order for us to be grouped together, we may need to have some type of common denominator.

Just changed the oil, adjusted the torsion bars, adjusted the carbs, and should be good to go. Have over 1,700 miles in a little over two months.... Driving it like I stole it - just like I was told to!
I'm desparately trying to make it, but it looks doubtful. I still don't have it running right and am going to be traveling for most of the next week. I live in Sachse, which is just northeast of Dallas. If I can't get the Speedster running, I might just drive over. I'd love to see a group of Speedster on the track, even if one of them isn't mine.

The Dallas BugSwarm is that morning at Rusty Wallis VW. You can get the details at http://www.ntvwclub.org/ntvwevents.html.

I had it going good enough to get to the Sachse Cars Under the Stars show and got first in class, then everything went haywire with the fuel system.

Cal, I think we saw you Thursday evening when we were driving back from dinner. We were on Broadway and spotted you making a left off of Edmond road onto Broadway. (I'm assuming it was you, there aren't many Speedsters in this area, or Oklahoma)Your Speedster looked very nice and you & your wife appeared to be enjoying the top down drive.
Jim, you probably saw my wife (Carol) and I taking a short spin last Thursday - right before we left for Colorado Springs for a long weekend.

(Tried to convince her to take the speedster for the trip - she refused, and am I ever so happy that I wasn't successful! During late Friday afternoon there was a thunderstorm that included a deluge with accompanying hail and it rained most of the time that we were there...)

I intend to spend some time over the next few days making sure the roof fits as well as it can, just in case of inclement weather next weekend. Carol has already said that any chance of rain will cause her to "bail" on the trip - and I don't mean water out of the car, but she'll stay home where it will be nice and dry. Unless the forecast calls for a monsoon and is disasterous, I'm going.

Haven't connected with the Porsche guys lately. Will see them on Wednesday evening and will get an update on others going along.
I just got off the phone (after about 30 minutes speaking back and forth with someone on the other side of the world who handles the Doral group's central reservations) and found out that we can only book the room through the "in-house" reservation people - between 8:00am and 4:00pm - because the Speedster group rate is unavailable to the central reservations people. Would have been good to know ahead of time. My apologies to anyone that went through the same run around.
