Latch

I have adjusted the trunk release cable with no success. It appears the problem is the "half moon" or crescent shaped latch which "catches" the lid when closed.

That latch will not return to its normal position when the lid is fully depressed thus not securing the trunk all the way down. It will pop open or not secure at all.

Is a new assembly next?

Talk about frustrating.

Grease it.

I had to put a tapered shim under the latch so it would grab the pin at more of a right angle. I don't know if this will help your situation.

Grease will not help as it loose not stuck. It won't return to its normal position. Whatever mechanism causes the catch to engage is not working.

Has it ever worked?

It has not always been like this. Latch began to pop open going over small bumps. I adjusted the cable and things seemed to be better. It began to occur again and the problem seems to center around the latch....not the cable. Looking at this thing upside down for the last three days has been an education. It is such a simple piece but I have never chased an issue like this. I feel like I have been chasing my tail.

Is the spring that holds the catch closed missing?

Id first find more rivots like they use to put it on . Drill out the old rivots take it off and inspect it Bet you have a broken or if your lucky a un hooked spring ..

Keep us posted.. as to what you find.. Even if the spring is broken I will tell you where to get one and how to repair it..
