leaky header pipe. sollutions?
Former Member
i seem to have a leak where the j pipe sliding joint is. And it makes a racket when under power. Does the group have any sugestions as how to fix. I could have it welded. but that would mean cutting the header to remove it.

jerry, it's been talked about before. If your little joint gasket/donut has been blown out missing or damaged than you have a bit more trouble. If you can loosen your muffler mounting clamps, slip on a new gasket, apply a constant "pressing force" onto the muffler sending it as far back onto the j-tube while securing the clamps. Good luck.
Jerry; i had that problem and fixed it with a muffler mender/sealant compound from Victor that I bought for less than $2 at Advance Auto Parts. If I recall correctly your engine is a big one from Chico; are your J-pipes 1-1/2" diam or the stock 1-3/8"? You might like to check into that too.
