If you already have a "short" set of straps, I would take them to a shoe Guy "cobbler", I'm not sure what they are called. Ask him to replace the metal fittings with longer leather. Then you can pick the exact length, color, width etc. That of course works if you already have the hardware.

You might try looking in a horse tack shop over there. They often have buckled straps (often with a protector flap between the buckle and horse/car) that would work fine. Typically, the working straps have brass hardware, and the "show" versions have silver hardware.

As an alternative, ask at a tack shop if there is a saddlery or saddle repair shop nearby - they often have used straps which already have that nice, old patina, and in various lengths.

Or, look around for a nearby stable and ask there - they need to get new stuff and get old stuff fixed, so they'll know where the best (and cheapest) places are.

If you want new hood straps, try MossMotors.com or try looking for links on the Austin Healey or Jaguar sites. Also try a search on this site with the search function for "hood straps" - we just covered that topic a while ago and mentioned a couple of sources.

These are sold by Fibersteel ($125,-?) as a Spyder part. They look very simmular to the originals I 've seen in the books. They are pointed at the bottom. When I should order these and let them ship to Holland, they will become twice as expensive by (dutch) custom taxes and VAT and so on. So, when someone has a used pair (with a nice patina?), make me a fair deal and send it labeled as a '$5 present'.
Mart.
