Hey, have a question to ask you guys. As most of you know, Master builder Alan Merklin is building my classic speedster. I was just wondering if in place of the standard blubs you could use LED blubs? If so, what are the part #s for the rear LED beehives and the part #s for the front signal beehives. Also, do you need to change to electronic flashers?

Thank you all in advance for your input.

Paul - I used LEDs as replacements for the 1156 & 1157 filament bulbs my VS came with. I got them at Pep Boys (or any auto parts & accessories store). Simple switch out. Made a huge difference in the visibility. At the time, they cost $19.95 (pkg of 2).

I will eventually replace them with 'red' LED lamps for deeper red color.

Jim so you would recommend colored LEDs under the lenses??

These seem to be a great idea.  They have really come down in price.  I actually have the red/amber lenses so looks like I would need red and yellow LEDs.  I might even replace the front parking lights.

According to the Super Bright LED website they recommend using the same colored bulb as the lens it is shining through. Red lens = red bulb, amber lens = amber bulb etc.

Doc Phil - Yes I will replace with red LEDs. I later realized the bright white LEDs wash out the 'red' of the red lenses. The red LEDs will not wash out the color red  lenses.

Here is a pic of the LED bulbs I have.

TurboT sounds you are talking about beehive tail lights on your VS. On my 2013 VS I wanted to change the solid red lens to amber, but the existing dual and single filament did not meet CA DMV code. So, I pulled out the old sockets and found drop-in replacements at local auto parts store. The only modification I had to do was on the housing outside socket hole- was too larger for the single fillet bulb socket- the inside hole was perfect for the dual filament socket. Now it works well and legal.
