OK, Barry.....
Where can we get some?
Barry:
I believe you, but I haven't found them yet. Any leads?

Possibly here??? http://www.kingbrightusa.com/default.asp
The only lead I have is I saw one on This Old House and it was brighter than 60 watt halogen . A array of them could easyly fill out a tail light and make the intire thing glow evenly.
THAT'S WHAT I WOULD WANT!!
It is bound to be the next big step for running lamps on cars I have no other leads.
But I want to talk with the folks at Digitkey. They are the leading supplier in Leds and electronics world wide. they should be able to tell us of someone.

Are you referring to 12V SMDs?

What about these:
www.superbrightlights.com
1157 Dual contact and 1156 single contact BA15 SMD/LEDs - 45 LED tower configuration with bulbs in a 360 degree pattern around the tower so that you get the benefit of the reflection of the chrome backing to the light assembly.
They say that when lit they look like an incandescent but with the brightness of LEDs. They claim these are their absolute brightest BA15 bulbs.
$24.95 each.

Read in the paper the other day that incandesent lights bulbs are about to be outlawed - illegal to sell them. I'm sure California will be the first to implement.
Can car bulb legislation be far behind?

Been working a lot lately.
Chuck it was good to see you take some pictures some pictures. I'm glad my discription was enough for you to work with. You can however keep the center divider in your units. I used a pair of the NLA Tiawan repo lights with original trim and kept the dividers.
Chuck is 100% correct the two springs are supposed to make a good ground but don't. Also the outside tabs under the screws are supposed to be a ground. I like the hard wired and solderd solution best. If you can picture it I used four individual wires and drilled small holes in the bakelite contact area and threaded it through rather than one four wire pigtail. My car is wired to a standard configuration with brake and turn as one bulb and tail lights seperate.
As for the twist in standard led bulb conversions they work well if you have shiney chrome backing in your housings. The CUlayer LED's are also aimed in a perfect direction to the rear.
Yep they are pricy but you will NEVER have to replace one or worry about a melted lens or burned out bulb.

Sorry for the electronic stutter. The touchpad on this computer has flipped out.
I don't think SMD are the same thing.
The postage stamp size module I saw had at least 60 or more micro LEDs on it.
If you could do this on a flat incert card that fit inside our tail lights it would be very nice, brite, and Awesome.

I have a update I found a site for Polar Ray down lighting and a company named Cree that offers the new Led lights. Do search and Follow the links and you can see the videos they have on them..
Very Interesting! Get this if you combine red yellow and blue LEDs in a Array a certain way. You get a dimmable brite white defused light.. These puppys could replace headlight bulbs.
