To assuage the bad feelings, I have deleted my listing here. I thought after the arguments in the past that as long as someone was a contibuting member that there wasn't really anything wrong with listing items for sale here. Apparently, besides being a donating member to the "free" site, you should also run any thing you're selling past all the members here first, in case they want it. The bottom line is i was short on cash and short on time and had NO idea what it was worth, so it's kind of hard to list something for sale if you don't know what you're selling it for.
I'm quite sure TC was just kidding. I over-reacted. Vince didn't seem like he was kidding. If he was, well I'm sorry for over-reacting. Perhaps this could serve as a reminder that sarcasm is hard to get across in type, especially when you don't know the person on the other side of the keyboard. I've written to TC and received helpful and friendly advice, so my response to him was meant in kind and I thought it came across as good-humored. Maybe it didn't and that could be my fault. Whatever the case, I can't offer to members of this site FIRST anymore since it's already listed. What I will do is offer 10% off the highest bid if they are a member of this site. How's THAT sound. Bid $500 and if you win, it'll only cost $450. Whatever here's a link you can cut and paste if you need a luggage rack. cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1,1&item=4541463642&sspagename=STRK%3AMESE%3AIT .

Just mention your user name at the speedsterowners site for your 10% discount and bid, bid, bid. Thanks for listening to my ramblings. i wish I didn't need to sell petty stuff like this, but I don't have a lot of cash, and I love the Speedster. Hopefully, we can all agree about about that last bit.
Although it is true that I do like to stir the pot on occasion, I was serious about my post.....
Just about everyone would agree that this is a great site, for different reasons for everyone...but we are like a big family........(kinda) Anyway we have a classified section for people to sell things related to our cars....Luke's luggage rack is a perfect example..How many times have people posted things saying things like
"just want to give you guys first shot, before I list this elsewhere" etc...I see it all the time...Its giving our own a chance to buy something, before its advertised to everyone...courtesy is the word I think I am looking for, and if I have to explain further you obviously don't get it....
I don't think Luke should withdraw his ad from our site but I do think he made a mistake by not offering it on this site first....
Thats the way I feel so I tell it like I see it.............

I'm getting better.... sometimes I just ignore some of the $%*&^$# things I read....
Luke, nothing personal, I don't even know you, you have every right to do as you please, It just seemed to me that what you are selling is perfect for this site and it would probably be jumped on right away...I see your name in the forum from time to time so you know the deal here, I was just suprised when I read your post that you didn't give first chance to one of our members, thats all....
No big deal.............
Luke,

I'm SO SORRY for this mess. YES, I was just kidding around with you, you MUST have know, but in the future I'll put a smile or something after my post so that anyone/everyone will know that it's just a rib. I didn't mean to get you in any conflict at all . . .

Your rack is fairly priceless, a really fine and very much sought after accessory. You're very right in your Ebay description where you mention something about how "right" these racks make the car look. it's just so PERFECT!

I know that if it were something smaller or a little more common, you would have thrown it up on the forum for sale/trade/free, but I can surely understand that a rare "original" item needs to go the collectors as well, especially if you don't know it's worth and especially if the need for $ is an issue right now.

With Ebay, you also have the option of cutting the price down for the buyer after it's sold. If anyone sold something on Ebay, which went to a forum member, the seller could adjust the price afterward to the "Forum Discount Applies" price easily if they wanted to. Nothing's carved in stone these days.

Anyway, I'm sorry for my role in starting this thing. I'll still make up CDs of stickers for free for anyone who wants, but if I had a rack like that . . .

I'd charge you all just to LOOK at it . . .

:)
TC
Well said TC,
I DO NEED the money and it is a rare and desirable. And you are right if it was something more common, I would have happily offered it up here. If anybody needs that VW maintenance book with the bad "George Crumb rip-off illustrations", let me know. I got 2 with my car and I don't need anything for it. I am also offering 10% off members on this auction. This discount will be given at auctions closing. I probably made a mountain out of a molehill, but thanks for looking. Oh yeah, I also have some sort of short shifter with a trigger like top that I'm not using.I don't know what it is worth, but if you need pictures or want to make an offer go ahead.
Will somebody please explain to me how the ordinary stuff is worth an ad on this site but a rare item is catagorized differently....
I'm sorry for continuing this, I was going to just drop it, but every time someone posts they make it worse.....
Believe me when I say, I really wanted this to end, and didn't intend
to start an issue here, just a comment.....
I was happy with "you can do as you please" but now we are justifying what would be OK for this site....
I'm out of here......
"radio edit . . . "

Well not really. My original unedited post mentioned that I'd wished that the luggage rack was posted here first rather than being put up on Ebay for the "barbarians" to bid on it. It was kind of a tongue-in-cheek post that took on a life of it's own. I removed it largely because Luke removed his original posts so the "context" of my post was lost. I never realized that this would make Vince out to be a lone gunman.

Vince, my intention was never to hang you out to dry and I'm very sorry that it was the result of my deleated post. I should have stayed in there, deleating it makes me look bad and removes the basis of your response. It was stupid and I shouldn't have do it! I REALLY think that it's important that we have each other's back. I've been to genuine PORSCHE events and had my a$$ handed to me, it s#cks to be alone and out numbered. You had mine and I left you hanging.

Sorry Vince (and Luke), I didn't think all of it through, posting AND deleating.

TC

HEY! Someone stole my smile face ! ! !

WOW, now I'm a non-contributor . . . feels kind of . . . liberating! Almost like I can do and say anything that I want without any backlash. What would I care, I'm not involved . . .

WOW! Kinda cool . . . think I give it a try and see how it feels . . .

LUKE
Here's my last word....really. I don't think it has to do with the value or rarity so musch for as it does the fact that I DON'T KNOW WHAT IT IS WORTH. That's where auction sites come in handy. People with more specialised knowledge than me (and that is probably everybody) can let me know what it is worth. I paid $4?? for it, but I've seen them sell for over $900. So Vince, tell me if you were in my position (possibly losing your job, needing repairs to a car you love and trying to maximize your return on an unnecassary accessory), how would you have sold it? Not that anybody needed the details, it's just that "Vince likes to stir up the pot".
Luke,
I lost my job last year (summer) was out of work 3 months with no
income (self employed, no unemployment ins.) was considering selling my speedster if it came to that. My monthly food bill is somewhere around 1200.00 with the kids and their friends, etc..
I occasionally use ebay to buy and sell things, but we are talking about belonging to a group....
Members who care for each other (somewhat) and as a courtesy to the group you belong to, it would have been nice.......thats all..
Also, who better to ask then these guys what something 356 related is worth............I realize someone who has a real speedster might be willing to spend considerably more. but actually that is kinda my point...screw the real guys, we are a group.....
TC, I am used to being hung out to dry, I have the shoulders to carry it, so don't worry about me, but thanks for your previous post.
Lets just end this now and move on.....
