You will have to buy a bug one and shorten it. The one you have now may already have the shortening adapter. If not they are inexpensive.
Perhaps yours just came loose from the connection adapter?
no I saw the cable is broken, its has drum brakes in rear, where did you get the adapters ?
Any VW aftermarket part place has them - used for shortening cables for Dune Buggies. Amazon/eBay has them. About $10 for 2.
Wolfgang upon closer inspection what I thought was a broken cable was one side sliding out of the adjuster it should be held into, I can't find the adjuster as I've been fishing in the tunnel with a long magnet with no luck, I tried looking a jaybugs for the adjuster but saw nothing under dune buggies etc, looked on amazon also, what are we calling the cable adjusters ? while I'm waiting for that I'll weld a nipple for the adj. plate as mine is broken, I suspect that what put uneven pressure on the cables and one pulled out.
Geez! What a PITA to find those adapters!
Here’s what I found at SoCal VW parts. Darrell, do a search on “Cable Shortening Kit for E-Brake cable” or something like that.

When you get them, put some blue or red Locktite on the set screw, then crank the setscrew right down on the cable to lock them together.
thanks Gordon, got them coming as we speak
Cool.
I use those, too.
I have found that, with the adaptors, drilling the set screw hole a little deeper can help them hold. I think I tinned the cable ends with solder too. And I might have also added a bit of JB Weld before cinching them down...
Ed wears a belt and suspenders, too..... 😉
