I've been reviewing this site pretty religiously for several months now and have some pretty clear ideas about what (I think) I want. Unfortunately, what I think I want (a Conv D or a cab) is not available in New Zealand, where I live. Nevertheless, given that possibly the most repeated piece of advice on this site is something to the effect of "try a second-hand speedster before you buy a new speedster", I'm trying to find an used speedster in NZ to buy before considering my own build. Although they are somewhat scarce, I've managed to track down two possibilities (one a Platinum, one a Chesil... I'm told), which I plan to look at in the next week or so.

Which leads to my question: I'm not mechanically adept enough to trust my judgment with respect to the engine and so forth, so I will have that checked out by a mechanic, but I need to take responsibility for deciding if the rest of the car is up to scratch (perhaps a poor choice of words). I don't have any real-life (as opposed to sitting and reading on my computer) experience of fibreglass cars or kit/limited edition builds. Can you guys give me some advice on what things I should look for (or look out for!) when assessing the cars?

Cheers, John.
