Hi All:

I'm brand spankin' new to the forum, and don't have a speedo, but owned a 400 hp 911 turbo cab for about 12 years. So I'm not a total stranger to the 'character' of P-cars (overheating in traffic, a tempramental clutch cable as long as a Roy Rogers lasso, etc). Anyhow, I've lurked awhile, done some searches, and researched things a bit, and still have a question or two that hopefully won't get me crucified.

I'm interested in getting a speedster within the next year or so and am willing to wait for the right one to come my way. The 'right one' for me is one that gives the most authentic period look and feel to the original car (ie, no flares, no fuchs, no fattie steering wheel....no offense if that's your thing, my turbo was all about that). What are your suggestions for a manufacturer and/or sources to find the 'original style' one that's been 'pre enjoyed'?....notice I didn't say a 'best manufacturer'.....I've seen that wildfire get set on the forum. What have others' experiences been like with Ebay? Do you all recommend sticking with the classified forum here to find the 'right one'? Is going to one of your big meets a good place collect more info and/or find a solid car? And no, I was never one of those guys who wouldn't wave back....I've still never had the privilege of seeing a speedster on the road....I would have offered to trade cars on the spot. Thanks, and be gentle with me.

Byron,
Don't let some of the strong feelings here deter you. Your first question is "how much do you want to spend?". Probably the best advice I have read here (and I took it) is "buy a used one" drive it and see what you like and don't like. If after driving it for a year or so you still want something better then take what you have learned and either improve what you have or have a new one made.

These are fun toys. Never forget they are toys and are meant to be enjoyed.

My 2 cents
