Danny,
I forgot to respond to the "pass on the 82" post. I'm passing so if you'd like I can give the guy you're info. Shoot me an email. If you want me to do any diggin on it I'm here to help. He's a nice guy although I don't know how nice he'll be when he finds out I'm not buying his car.

The seller of the 83 sent me a message saying another higher offer came in. I told him if he wants to sell it go ahead. I said I'll give you $1000 less than the asking price and if it passes the PPI I'll be there tomorrow with a check. He emailed me back saying he'd hold up on our original offer so all's good.
I'm going to check out one more in the morning in case the PPI shows too much. It's also an 83 Red/Blk, about the same asking price $17K, with all the upgrades and lower miles. If the triple black doesn't work out maybe I gotta back up. ;)

Wish me luck tomorrow! If it checks out I'll be referring to them as the "fake one" and the "real one". ;)
Those bastards never got to the car today so I have to wait until tomorrow to see if it checks out. If they don't get it done by early afternoon I'll have to wait til friday!!
If I don't get in something fun to drive soon I'm gonna run through a brick wall!!!
It's taking FOREVER to get the speedster back together. At first it was OK cuz the weather here has sucked but yesterday and today (and the rest of the week for that matter) the weather has been gorgeous!

I looked at the red 82 SC today. Reallllly clean car. It needs some work but it's not a contender because they can't come up with any service records. What is it with people trying to sell a car for top $ and not having so much as an oil change reciept? When I asked the guy about the records he said "We don't have them but I know the car has been kept up." Really?
There is a triple black 88 not too far from here but it's a little pricey. Very low miles so it may be worth it. If the 83 doesn't check out that may be next on the list.
If the vehicle is at a dealership, there is a good chance that the PO did provide the records. Probably provided them to enusure he got the best trade value for the vehicle. Then the dealer (as do pretty much all dealers) threw them away.

They do NOT want you to contact the PO even if it is the finest car in the world. The PO will tell you what the trade in was for the vehicle and anything that they did not disclose to the seller...

It's a shame because the result is the vehicle is de-valued for the astute buyer.

911 heaven...

Alot people think it's really pretty funny that I drive a 27 year old car daily including long business trips. I could have a new car to drive, my company even offered me one.

But I don't want a new car. I want an air cooled 911. Once you have one, you will always have one or always yearn for one. Welcome to the madness, Mickey.

No, Steve. It was a shop not to far from him. I plan to settle in a bit first. Get the car titled, registered, etc... on monday. Do some snoopin around myself just to see whats what. The PPI wasn't a total failure. There were some things diagnosed that I may be able to take care of myself with the help of my wrench buddy. I may take it to Chris for the minor and major services though.
glad to hear it was not chris. good luck. call me if you need any help (I'm good at lifting things and being a 2nd hand).
Be thankful you are registering the real thing. I sat in three different lines at DMV on Thurs in the blistering sun for 3 hours. the good thing is that it is ALMOST registered. I had to go get an appraisal or pay tax based on the average price of a 57 speedster ( NADA had it at $100,000).
Enjoy the new car
Thanks Steve, I'll let ya know if I need a hand.

Lambros!! You know the keys are all yours if you ever get out my way! Nice to see you're still keeping an eye on us. ;)

I guess my computer at work sucks cuz U had no problem loading these. So...... here it is!!

Angela, Larry, Shuie, and everyone thanks sooo much for your help with this. I hope no one minds me pm'ing them for a little help now and again.
