I won't have mine for about 12-16 weeks, but that's ok because I won't have my car for a lot longer than that (Just ordered).

I got two plates and will choose which to employ when I get the car.

The first reads "Nachbau", German (m) for Replica/Duplicate/Remake.
The second reads "Kopie", German (f) for Copy/Remake/Replica.
The yellow plates can be used on corresponding year of manufacture cars only. You can still find available new YOM plates for pre-62 cars, but you have to go through one of the guys that sell them (you'll need 2). I bought a set for my buddy's 58 MGA and when I went to the DMV, they actually weighed the plates to verify they are real.

Some guys are running with replica plates, however using a personalized plate is an easy tip-off to a smart CHP cop since the DMV had few exceptions pre-1968 (the blue plates w/yellow letters)-- ham radio callsigns, some simple letter-number combos, never more that 3 digits & 3 letters. Go to www.calpl8s.com, it is a great informative site.

HEY! My license plate forum subject is still going! I think it may a site record for longest forum subject run!
There are plates listed on E-Bay, but a few questions remain:

1. Even though I plan to attach only a rear plate, is it wise to purchase two plates, in case CHP were to demand to see a second plate if stopped for not having a front plate?
2. How does one attach the month/year stickers to yellow plates? Are the rabbit ears I saw earlier on this page legal?
3. Does DMV have an extra yearly charge for use of the old yellow plates, such as they would charge for personalized ones? I
have no problem paying it, but just curious.
