Oh, let me mention that my license plate is too high - higher than what it should be. I built the car before the internet and didn't have the access to the cgreat refeerence information that is available today. Ask the guys at www.spyderclub.com as I am sure that one of the know the EXACT place to locate the plate and light if your light is not already installed.

I am just showing you my method for license plate installation.

No template that I am aware of. I took aluminum sheet and made a template of the license plate and expanded it to catch two holes that I had to drill. Measure twice and drill once!

Also, use some nylon spacers form Lowes or Home Depot to space the plate away from the body (prevents scratches from the plate).

Look under files for SpyderMike...pictures Pb170011 and Feb 26, 1999 (8),

Tony--hey. On my Speedster, I had my restoration mechanic put on the emblems as he has some kind of special tool for fiberglass drilling. I think I would leave it to the experts. How to make it fit, I don't know. It seems to be a tight squeeze. Right now, I'm just carrying it around in my door pocket and trying to stay behind the cops. ha

Have you seen the pictures of license plates wired to the back vents? I wonder if that would work? v
Hey Tony, On my beck ,i took the aluminum exhaust shield and fabricated from aluminum a lic. plate bracket on top of it,just a peice of alum. angle iron, two pop rivets, two holes for the bottom of the plate, it lines up perfect under the lic. light, about 30 minutes of work and it looks great and i didnt have to drill the body..
I had my restoration mechanic put my license on and it turned out great! He mounted a small standard bracket and angled it to fit the space. I guess all plates are a standard size, so it should fit anyone's license.

Tony--just FYI, at her first well-baby check up, my mechanic put metal fuel filters on. The plastic ones were not good. He also adjusted the parking brake, which wasn't working at all. It now works, but I haven't the power to pull it up. More about that later. Seems the caliper is probably one from a foot controlled brake and needs extra push. I don't know.

I've found a great heater and stereo for her, but that will have to wait; especially the stereo. It's radio controlled and is invisible inside the car! I really don't know if I need the heater because the top and windows are so well sealed, I don't get cold. Here in Nashville anyway!

Let me hear from you.

Hi Vicki:

Well, I'm just hanging around waiting for spring. I always see the glass half full. It's sunny and 28 degrees with wind chill feels like about 18. Funny thing though, I just seen a nut in a sweet 67 Corvette flying down the road.

I'm going to mount my plate today. I'm bored to death. I did see the car has a plastic fuel filter. They're ok for a little while. My p-brake works, but it is tough to jerk it up while sitting in the seat.

You'll need one BIG BOOM BOX to hear over that cam and exhaust!!!

I have a Calif. 1951-1955 license plate attached to my 2002 Beck. These were the last of the "large" plates as in 1956, all license plates, throughout the USA were manufactured to the same size.

To mount this plate, I removed the license plate light assembly and mounted the plate as low as it would go using a universal license plate bracket.
I then re-mounted the license plate light a little higher that standard. The whole assembly "looks" OK and doesn't apperar to be too high or too low. Drilling through fiberglass is a snap. Just use a sharp drill bit. and go slow. Some people like to put a piece of masking tape across the area to be drilled but I just drilled through the fiberglass and had no problems. It is recommended that once you drill the hole that you "paint" the inside of the hole with clear, paint or clear fingernail nail polish. This is suppose to keep water from collecting in the hole and causing a water bubble.

There are 2 photo's of old license plates in this thread, look for the black plate with orange lettering. The first photo is another members car with a 1956 plate (orange with black lettering)
