Has there been a consensus on the issues oh sine-up vs. shine-down? Did it differe by year? I was just curious after looking at the originals in John's pixs from the German Autofest.

Like most 356-related specifics, I'm not sure there's a hard-and-fast rule on the license-plate light. I do know that the Pre-A's ('48-'55) and the earliest A's ('56) with the "bee-hive" tail-lights almost always had a "shine down" light. In 1957, when the "teardrop" tail-lights were introduced, the license-plate light became "shine up." Since 99% of Speedster Replicas are from that 1957 body mold, "shine up" would be the most correct.
