Jay,

Every state varies on how they register a replica car. Be VERY careful... The person behind the counter is not necessarily knowledgeable and can lead you down a painful path. Depending on the state, it may be registered as a Replica 1955 Porsche Spyder, an Assembled Unit, a Specialty Constructed Vehicle, or even a salvage vehicle. In oregon, I nearly got into a fist fight because the counter person was trying to register my car as salvage. I literaly wound up taking the regulation book out of her hands and showing her how the vehicle needed to be registered.

This site does not have many spyder owners on it. I would suggest you ask the speedster guys how they are registered (there are quite a few speedster's registered in Iowa) or pose your question on spyderowners.com.

If the original owner has a MSO (Manufacturer's Statement of Origin) then that is the most glorious document you can obtain for this task.
